Singapore Charity Shield
The Singapore Community Shield (also known as the AIA Community Shield due to sponsorship reasons; formerly the Charity Shield) is the curtain-raiser to the football season in Singapore. The match is contested between the champions of the previous Singapore Premier League season and the Singapore Cup winners. In a situation when the same team wins both competition, then it is contested between the Singapore Premier League's champions and runners-up. The Community Shield (known then as the Charity Shield) was first contested in 2008. In the inaugural match, the Singapore Armed Forces defeated Home United 5–4 on penalties following a 1–1 draw. The Shield first doubled up as the season's opening fixture in 2014 and remained so for all subsequent editions until 2018. Great Eastern is the co-sponsor for the Community Shield since 2008 and becomes the main sponsor in 2017. Yeo's is the other co-sponsor for the Community Shield from 2008 until 2016. Lion City Sailors Football Club, commonly referred to as The Sailors or LCS, is a Singaporean professional football club competing in the Singapore Premier League, the top tier of the Singapore football league system. Hougang United
Hougang United Football Club is a Singaporean professional football club that competes in the Singapore Premier League. History Hougang United Football Club was founded as Marine Castle United Football Club, which was formed by Newcastle United fans in the Marine Parade area. Upon successful entry into the S.League in 1998, the club struggled in its early foray in the first few years, finishing in the bottom two for the next four seasons. Marine Castle changed its name to Sengkang Marine Football Club in 2002 and finished in 8th position consecutively, its highest ever finish in its short history. 2020 Singapore Community Shield
The 2020 Singapore Community Shield (also known as the AIA Community Shield for sponsorship reasons) was the 8th edition of the Singapore Charity Shield held on 22 February 2020 at Jalan Besar Stadium, between 2019 Singapore Cup winner Tampines Rovers and Hougang United. Hougang replaces 2019 Singapore Premier League champions DPMM FC who skipped the game due to precautionary travel restrictions because of the coronavirus situation. The 2017 Singapore Community Shield (also known as the Great Eastern Community Shield for sponsorship reasons) was the 10th edition of the Singapore Community Shield held on 26 February 2017 at National Stadium, between the winners of the previous season's S.League and Singapore Cup competitions. The match was contested by 2016 Singapore Cup winners Albirex Niigata (S) and 2016 S.League runners-up Tampines Rovers. This was the first time whereby a Shield match was played at the new National Stadium after opening in 2014. Duli Pengiran Muda Mahkota Football Club (His Royal Highness the Crown Prince of Brunei Football Club in English, commonly known as DPMM FC) is a professional football club based in Bandar Seri Begawan, Brunei. The club played in the Brunei Premier League in the early 2000s, winning the league title in 2002 and 2004. Albirex Niigata Singapore FC, abbreviated as Albirex Niigata (S), is a Singaporean football club that plays in the Singapore Premier League. The club is a satellite team of Albirex Niigata of Japan.
