Singapore Art Show
The Singapore Art Show was a biennial festival for visual art in Singapore, first organised by the National Arts Council in 2005 as a platform for local Artist, artists and other local residents. The Singapore Art Show was planned to be held on alternating years with the Singapore Biennale. The Art Show had a national focus on Singaporean and Singapore-based artists, while the Singapore Biennale, launched in 2006, would have a broader scope of Southeast Asian contemporary art in the international sphere. Instead of having a single theme like the Biennale, the Art Show had sought to feature a large number of exhibitions by local artists without an overarching curatorial theme. Goh Beng Kwan
Goh Beng Kwan (; born 1937, in Medan, Indonesia) is a pioneering Singaporean modern artist, known for his abstract collages that incorporate materials such as fabric, nails, and paper, exploring issues around cultural representation, urbanism, and identity. He is one of the first post-war artists in Singapore to travel to the United States for an art education at the Art Students League of New York. In 1982, Goh received the first prize at the inaugural UOB Painting of the Year Competition. He awarded the Cultural Medallion in 1989 for his contributions to the visual art of Singapore. Singapore International Festival of Arts (SIFA) is an annual arts festival held in Singapore. It is organised bArts House Limitedfor the National Arts Council. Art Stage Singapore was an Asian contemporary art fair held every January in Singapore with a focus on Southeast Asian art. History Art Stage Singapore was founded by Lorenzo Rudolf. Rudolf initially rejected a proposal to launch Art Basel in Singapore in 1992 but later revisited the idea of creating a unique Asian art fair. The fair took nine years to be realized. The National Arts Council (NAC) is a statutory board established on 15 October 1991 to oversee the development of arts in Singapore. It is under the purview of the Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth. Dawn Ng
Dawn Ng (born 1982) is a multi-hyphenate visual artist from Singapore. She works across a diverse breadth of mediums, motives and scale ranging from text, illustration, collage, light, sculpture to large scale installations. Her work primarily deals with time, memory, and the ephemeral. To date, Dawn was part of the Jeju Biennale in 2017, participated in the inaugural Art Basel Hong Kong with her solo, ''SIXTEEN'', followed by ''A Thing of Beauty'', at the Art Paris Art Fair at the Grand Palais in 2015. Chng Seok Tin
Chng Seok Tin (; 6 October 1946 – 6 September 2019) was a visually-impaired printmaker, sculptor and multi-media artist from Singapore. She was often inspired by the i-Ching and Buddhism. Her work has been shown internationally; Chng had over 26 solo shows and 100 group shows. In addition to her art, she was also a prolific writer and has published 11 collections of her writing, mostly in Chinese. She also advocated for artists with disabilities. Francis Ng Chun-yu (; born 21 December 1961) is a Hong Kong actor and director. Lim Tze Peng
Lim Tze Peng (, born 28 September 1921) is a Singaporean artist who is a teacher by training and profession. He was awarded a Cultural Medallion in 2003 in recognition of his contribution to the country's art and culture. In June 2021, it was reported that he was still producing art at the age of 99. Biography Lim was born in 1921 to a family of pig and chicken farmers in Pasir Ris. He is the eldest of seven children. Lim studied at Guangyang Primary School and Chung Cheng High School. In 1949, Lim became a primary school teacher at Xin Min School and then became principal in 1951. He remained as principal till he retired in 1981. Chua Ek Kay
Chua Ek Kay () (21 November, 1947 – 8 February 2008) was a Singaporean artist hailed as the "bridge between Asian and Western art" with a unique painting style using Chinese ink on paper that demonstrated an ingenious blend of traditional Chinese painting forms with Western art theories and techniques. Most of his works were themed of Chinatown street scenes, lotuses, and abstract works inspired by Australian aboriginal cave paintings.
