Me First And The Gimme Gimmes
Me First and the Gimme Gimmes (often shortened to just Me First or the Gimmes) are a punk rock supergroup and cover band that formed in San Francisco in 1995. The band's lineup consists of Spike Slawson, Fat Mike, Joey Cape, and Dave Raun. Chris Shiflett is a former member. The Gimmes work exclusively as a cover band. They specialize in rapid-fire punk interpretations of a wide range of songs, often with a humorous edge. The band is named after a children's book of the same name by Gerald G. Jampolsky and Diane V. Cirincione. History The band's first release came with 1995's ''Denver'', a 7" single released on band member Fat Mike's record label Fat Wreck Chords, featuring two John Denver covers. Linda Linda
is a single by the Japanese rock band The Blue Hearts that was first released on May 1, 1987. Lyrics and music were written by Hiroto Kōmoto, the band's lead vocalist, and was arranged by The Blue Hearts. The track reached #38 on the Oricon charts during its release year. It remains one of the group's most popular songs and was included on many albums. It was rereleased as a single on February 6, 2002. The B-side track on the single was "Boku wa Koko ni Tatteiru Yo" (僕はここに立っているよ ''I'm Standing Here''), which was written by Masatoshi Mashima, the band's guitarist. Original recordings There is a noticeable difference in the guitar arrangement and sound mixing between ''Linda Lindas release as a single and its release on the album, ''The Blue Hearts''. Dave Raun
Dave Raun (born June 7, 1970) a resident of Fresno, California, is the drummer for the seminal California punk rock band Lagwagon. He also filled in on drums for a short period for Sean "SC" Sellers of Good Riddance. Additionally, Raun drums for the punk rock cover band/supergroup Me First and the Gimme Gimmes, with fellow Lagwagon member Joey Cape. Fat Mike
Michael John Burkett (born January 16, 1967), known professionally as Fat Mike, is an American musician and producer. He is the bassist and lead vocalist for the punk rock band NOFX and the bassist for the punk rock supergroup cover band Me First and the Gimme Gimmes. Fat Mike started out with his first band False Alarm in 1982. He credits Joe Escalante of the Vandals for introducing him to punk rock when he was 13 at a summer camp. Musical career While attending Beverly Hills High School, Mike began his musical career with the band False Alarm. After the band split up in 1983, he met Eric Melvin and Erik Sandin and formed the original line-up of NOFX. He has also appeared as a guest-vocalist on a number of other bands' tracks including "Peter Brady" on Screeching Weasel's 1993 album, ''Anthem for a New Tomorrow''. Joey Cape
Randal Joseph Cape (born November 16, 1966) is an American singer and musician. Active since 1989, Cape is best known as the frontman of the California punk rock band Lagwagon. Cape released his first solo album, ''Bridge'', in 2008. His second album ''Doesn't Play Well with Others'', was self-released in 2011, after he released each song on the album each month of 2010, collecting them all on CD and vinyl in the end of 2010. Biography In addition to his work with Lagwagon, he was the lead vocalist for the experimental band Bad Astronaut until they disbanded due to death of drummer Derrick Plourde and is also a guitarist in the cover band Me First and the Gimme Gimmes. Moreover, Joey Cape released two split albums with Tony Sly of No Use for a Name, featuring acoustic versions of Lagwagon and No Use For a Name songs. Spike Slawson is an American punk rock musician, a member of Me First and the Gimme Gimmes, Swingin' Utters, Filthy Thievin' Bastards, Re-Volts, and Uke-Hunt. Early life Having grown up in Pittsburgh, Slawson worked in the mail order department of the record label Fat Wreck Chords (which is the subject of a song by The Aquabats titled "Dear Spike"). Musical career He later was in Me First and the Gimme Gimmes (a cover band/' supergroup' consisting mainly of members of Fat Wreck bands) formed in 1995. Slawson is the lead singer for the group. Hiroto Kōmoto
is a Japanese rock singer who has fronted bands such as The Blue Hearts, The High-Lows and The Cro-Magnons. Early life Kōmoto was born in 1963 in Okayama, Okayama Prefecture and graduated from the junior high school attached to the School of Education at Okayama University before graduating from the prefectural Sōzan High School. He attended Hosei University after high school, but dropped out before completing his degree. Career In 1985, Kōmoto joined with Masatoshi Mashima to form The Blue Hearts and released their first single (''Hito ni Yasashiku'') and their major debut (''Linda Linda'') in 1987. The Tigers were a popular Japanese band during the Group Sounds era in the late 1960s. The group featured Kenji Sawada as their lead singer, and were signed by Watanabe Productions.
