Simpson, Saskatchewan
Simpson ( 2016 population: ) is a village in the Canadian province of Saskatchewan within the Rural Municipality of Wood Creek No. 281 and Census Division No. 11. It is between the cities of Regina and Saskatoon on Highway 2. The administrative office for the Rural Municipality of Wood Creek No. 281 is located in the village. The post office was founded in 1911 by Herman Bergren and Joseph Newman during construction of the Canadian Pacific Railway. It is named after George Simpson, a governor of the Hudson's Bay Company. History The early 1904 pioneer homestead settlers were George, John and Robert Simpson, Bill Grieve, William Cole, and E.C. Howie. Simpson incorporated as a village on July 11, 1911. George Simpson (administrator)
Sir George Simpson ( – 7 September 1860) was a Scottish explorer and colonial governor of the Hudson's Bay Company during the period of its greatest power. From 1820 to 1860, he was in practice, if not in law, the British viceroy for the whole of Rupert's Land, an enormous territory of 3.9 millions square kilometers in northern North America. His efficient administration of the west was a precondition for the confederation of western and eastern Canada. He was noted for his grasp of administrative detail and his physical stamina in traveling through the wilderness. Excepting voyageurs and their Siberian equivalents, few men have spent as much time traveling in the wilderness. Simpson was the first person known to have circumnavigated the world by land. Simpson Flyers
The Simpson Flyers were a senior hockey team based in Simpson, Saskatchewan. The Simpson Flyers played in the Long Lake Hockey League until the 1997/1998 season when the team combined with the Imperial Sabres to form the Long Lake Lightning. The Long Lake Lightning organization has since ceased operations, although the combined minor hockey teams of Simpson and Imperial still use the ''Long Lake Lightning'' name.
