Simone Opitz
Simone Opitz (born 3 July 1963 in Sonneberg, Bezirk Suhl) is an East German-German cross-country skier who competed from 1985 to 1993. Competing in two Winter Olympics, she earned best finish of fifth twice at the 1988 Winter Olympics in Calgary (20 km, 4 × 5 km relay). Opitz's best finish at the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships was fifth in the 10 km event at Val di Fiemme in 1991. Sonneberg
Sonneberg in Thuringia, Germany, is the seat of the Sonneberg district. It is in the Franconian south of Thuringia, neighboring its Upper Franconian twin town Neustadt bei Coburg. The ''Fédération internationale de ski et de snowboard'' (FIS; en, International Ski and Snowboard Federation) is the highest international governing body for skiing and snowboarding. The 1986–87 FIS Cross-Country World Cup was the 6th official FIS Cross-Country World Cup, World Cup season in cross-country skiing for men and ladies. FIS Nordic World Ski Championships 1987
The FIS Nordic World Ski Championships 1987 took place 11–21 February 1987 in Oberstdorf, West Germany. Following the domination of the skating technique at the previous championships, the International Ski Federation (FIS) introduced separate cross-country skiing races in the classical technique and the freestyle technique at these championships. For the only time (besides the 1988 Winter Olympics), the relays consisted of four freestyle legs.
