The Ethiopia national football team, nicknamed ''ዋሊያ'', after the Walia, represents Ethiopia in men's international football and is controlled by the Ethiopian Football Federation, the governing body for football in Ethiopia. The team has been representing Ethiopia in regional, continental, and international competitions since its founding in 1943. The Walias play their home games at Addis Ababa Stadium located in the capital city of Addis Ababa. . Ethiopia was one of only three teams (along with Egypt and Sudan) to participate in the inaugural Africa Cup of Nations in 1957. It won the competition in 1962, while it was also the host. The Ethiopian national under-16 basketball team is governed by the Ethiopian Basketball Federation (FTBB).(Amharic: ኢትዮጵያ የቅርጫት ኳስ ማህበር) It represents the country in international under-16 (under age 16) basketball competitions. 2015 African Championship The team qualified for the 2015 FIBA Africa Under-16 Championship in Bamako, Mali. There, the team finished 11th. As a debutant, Ethiopia, managed by coach Kasa, beat Morocco in their opening game 58-52. Ethiopia was able to compete well against all other teams except Tunisia. 2007 AfroBasket
AfroBasket 2007 was the 24th FIBA Africa Championship, played under the auspices of the Fédération Internationale de Basketball, the basketball sport governing body, and the African zone thereof. The tournament was hosted by Angola, in the cities of Benguela, Cabinda, Huambo and Lubango. Angola won its fifth consecutive African championship and ninth overall by beating Cameroon 86-72 in the championship game. Cape Verde won the bronze medal game over Egypt. Angola qualified for the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing whereas Cameroon and Cape Verde qualified for the 2008 Olympic Qualifying Tournament. FIBA AfroBasket 2025 will be the 31st edition of the FIBA AfroBasket, a men's basketball continental championship of Africa. The tournament will be hosted by Angola for the fourth time. Tunisia are the two-time defending champion, having won the 2017 and 2021 tournaments. Host selection ;Bids * * * * * FIBA Africa decided to announce the host country in March 2024. On 12 March, Angola were reported to be given the hosting rights. On 26 March 2024, Angola received the hosting rights, beating fellow bidders Egypt, Morocco, Senegal and Tunisia. Angola's organizational capacity and infrastructure was one of the driving factors in Angola's selection. This will be Angola's first time hosting since 2007.
