Simon Coveney
Simon Coveney (born 16 June 1972) is an Irish Fine Gael politician who has served as Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment since December 2022 and Deputy Leader of Fine Gael since 2017. He previously served as Minister for Foreign Affairs and Minister for Defence from 2020 to 2022. He has served as a Teachta Dála (TD) for the Cork South-Central constituency since 1998. He previously served as Tánaiste from 2017 to 2020, Minister for Housing, Planning, Community and Local Government from 2016 to 2017 and Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine from 2011 to 2016. He also served as a Member of the European Parliament (MEP) for the South constituency from 2004 to 2007. He was elected to Dáil Éireann in a by-election in 1998, following the death of his father Hugh Coveney. A Teachta Dála ( , ; plural ), abbreviated as TD (plural ''TDanna'' in Irish, TDs in English), is a member of Dáil Éireann, the lower house of the Oireachtas (the Irish Parliament). It is the equivalent of terms such as ''Member of Parliament'' (MP) or '' Member of Congress'' used in other countries. The official translation of the term is "Deputy to the Dáil", although a more literal translation is "Assembly Delegate". Eoghan Murphy (born Dublin, 23 April 1982) is a former Fine Gael politician who was a Teachta Dála (TD) for the Dublin Bay South constituency from 2016 until 27 April 2021, and previously from 2011 to 2016 for the Dublin South-East constituency. He previously served as Minister for Housing, Planning and Local Government from 2017 to 2020 and a Minister of State from 2016 to 2017. Gurteen College is an agricultural college in County Tipperary, Ireland. Founded as Gurteen Agricultural College by the Methodist Church in Ireland in 1947 it was officially opened by the Minister for Agriculture, Mr Patrick Smith, on October 11, 1947. Hugh Coveney
Hugh Coveney (20 July 1935 – 14 March 1998) was an Irish Fine Gael politician who served as Minister of State at the Department of Finance from 1996 to 1997, Minister for the Marine and Minister for Defence from 1994 to 1995 and Lord Mayor of Cork from 1982 to 1983. He served as a Teachta Dála (TD) for the Cork South-Central constituency from 1981 to 1982, 1982 to 1987 and 1994 to 1998. Early life Coveney was born into one of Cork's prosperous "merchant prince" families in 1935. A by-election was held in the Dáil Éireann Cork South-Central constituency in Ireland on 23 October 1998. It followed the death of Fine Gael Teachta Dála (TD) Hugh Coveney on 14 March 1998. The election was won by Simon Coveney of Fine Gael and son of Hugh Coveney. The other candidates being Sinead Behan for Fianna Fáil, Cork City Councillor and former TD Toddy O'Sullivan for the Labour Party, Cork City Councillor Dan Boyle for the Green Party, Henry Cremin for Sinn Féin, Peter Kelly for the Progressive Democrats, Benny Cooney as an Independent, Brian McEnery for Natural Law and Jim Tallon as an Independent.
