Silkeborg Museum
Silkeborg Museum is a museum of Danish cultural history with official state recognition based in Silkeborg Municipality, Denmark. Museum Silkeborg is located at three different sites: Manor House (''Hovedgården'') and the Paper Mill Museum (''Papirmuseet'') in Silkeborg and Blicheregnen farm in the village of Thorning. Hovedgården Silkeborg Hovedgård houses the main administration of the museum. Silkeborg Hovedgård was built between 1767 and 1770 by ''Rittmeister'' Hans Nicolai Hoff after he had acquired Silkeborg Castle, whose buildings had fallen into despair. From 1846, a room in the building was used as a chapel for workers at the new Silkeborg Paper Factory and later the building was used as a post office. The museum was founded in 1904. Silkeborg Hovedgård came back into private ownership in 1906 before it was acquired by Silkeborg Municipality in 1939. Silkeborg Municipality
Silkeborg municipality is a municipality ( Danish, '' kommune'') in Region Midtjylland on the Jutland peninsula in central Denmark. The municipality covers an area of 857.16 km², and has a population of 89,707 (1 April 2014). Its mayor is Steen Vindum, of the party Venstre. The main town and the site of its municipal council is the town of Silkeborg. On 1 January 2007 Silkeborg municipality was, as the result of ''Kommunalreformen'' ("The Municipal Reform" of 2007), merged with Gjern, Kjellerup, and Them municipalities to form the new Silkeborg municipality. The municipality is part of Business Region Aarhus and of the East Jutland metropolitan area, which had a total population of 1.378 million in 2016. Tollund Man
The Tollund Man (died 405–380 BC) is a naturally Mummy, mummified corpse of a man who lived during the 5th century BC, during the period characterised in Scandinavia as the Pre-Roman Iron Age. He was found in 1950, preserved as a bog body, near Silkeborg on the Jutland peninsula in Denmark. The man's physical features were so well preserved that he was mistaken for a recent murder victim. Twelve years before his discovery, another bog body, Elling Woman, was found in the same bog. The cause of death has been determined as by hanging. Battle Of Grathe Heath
The Battle of Grathe Heath was fought in 1157 between the Danish armies of Valdemar I and his rival for the Danish throne, Sweyn III. Valdemar's forces won the battle, and Sweyn III was slain while attempting to flee. Background The battle of Grathe (Grey) Heath on 23 October 1157 marked the end of a civil war between Sweyn III, Canute V, and Valdemar I the Great, all contenders for the Danish throne. After Eric III of Denmark had abdicated in 1146, Sweyn III, son of Eric Emune, was declared king of Zealand and Scania, while Canute, son of King Magnus, became king of Jutland. Canute made several attempts to conquer Zealand (1147 and 1150), but was driven off and fled to Germany, where he managed to raise an army. In 1152, a battle was fought at Gedebæk, close to Viborg. Museum Jorn, Silkeborg, (formerly Silkeborg Kunstmuseum) is an art museum located by Gudenåen in Silkeborg, Denmark. The museum holds the collections that were developed by Asger Jorn (1914–1973) from the early 1950s until his death in 1973, since when they have doubled in extent.
