Silent Majority For Hong Kong
The Silent Majority for Hong Kong () is an anti- Occupy Central pro-Beijing political group in Hong Kong. It was founded on 8 August 2013 by members of the pro-Beijing alliance including former RTHK radio host Robert Chow and Professor of Economics at Lingnan University Ho Lok-sang. The group, which opposed the Occupy Central with Love and Peace movement, released a video on YouTube predicting deaths and chaos if the Occupy Central protests were to proceed, and organised numerous activities opposing the Occupy Central movement under the name Alliance for Peace and Democracy, such as a signature campaign and a march. Objectives The Group claims to strive for "democracy without chaos", and to support peace and the implementation of universal suffrage in Hong Kong, but to oppose violence and the Occupy Central Movement. The Alliance for Peace and Democracy (, formerly , literally: "The Protect-Universal Suffrage and Anti-Occupy Central with Love and Peace, Occupy Central Alliance") is a pro-Beijing political group based in Hong Kong. Pro-democracy Camp In Hong Kong
The pro-democracy camp, also known as the pan-democracy camp, is a political alignment in Hong Kong that supports increased democracy, namely the universal suffrage of the Chief Executive and the Legislative Council as given by the Basic Law under the "One Country, Two Systems" framework. The pro-democrats generally embrace liberal values such as rule of law, human rights, civil liberties and social justice, though their economic positions vary. Occupy Central with Love and Peace (OCLP) was a single-purpose Hong Kong civil disobedience campaign initiated by Reverend Chu Yiu-ming, Benny Tai and Chan Kin-man on 27 March 2013. The campaign was launched on 24 September 2014, partially leading to the 2014 Hong Kong protests. According to its manifesto, the campaign advocates for an electoral system in Hong Kong that is decided through a democratic process and satisfies international standards of universal and equal suffrage. With the first three stages of the movement – dialogue, deliberation and citizens' authorization – the civil disobedience that follows must be non-violent. Robert Chow
Robert Chow Yung (; born 22 April 1950), BBS, is a Hong Kong journalist and media personality who is a former RTHK radio host. He is currently the spokesman of the pro-Beijing conservative Alliance for Peace and Democracy and founder and leader of the Beijing-approved Silent Majority for Hong Kong movement. Early life Chow studied up to the Form Five level of school education. In 1967, at the age of 17, Chow started his career as a reporter for the now-defunct local tabloid ''The Star'' where his senior colleague Kevin Sinclair described him as a "mere boy".
