Sikkim Football Association ( SFA; is the state governing body of football in Sikkim, India. It is affiliated with the All India Football Federation, the sports national governing body. History The Sikkim Football Association was formed in the year 1976, previously it was known as the ''Gangtok Football and Sporting Association''. Sikkim football dates back with first local team, Kumar Sporting Club. The federation started Sikkim Gold Cup in 1979 with the help of the Sikkim government. Gangtok
Gangtok is a city, municipality, the capital and the largest populated place of the Indian state of Sikkim. It is also the headquarters of the East Sikkim district, Gangtok District. Gangtok is in the eastern Himalayas, Himalayan range, at an elevation of . The city's population of 100,000 are from different ethnicities of Sikkimese people such as Indian Gorkhas, Bhutia and Lepcha people, Lepchas. Sikkim (; ) is a state in Northeastern India. The All India Football Federation (AIFF) is the national governing body of football in India. It is a member of FIFA, the international governing body of football and affiliated to Asian Football Confederation. It is affiliated to Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports of Government of India and a member of South Asian Football Federation. The Government of Sikkim also known as the State Government of Sikkim is the subnational government of the Indian state of Sikkim and its 6 districts, created by the National Constitution as the legislative, executive and judicial authority to govern the state. The Governor acts as the head of state and is, nominally, the highest figure of executive authority. However it is the Chief Minister who is the ''de facto'' head of government and chief executive. Baichung Bhutia
Bhaichung Bhutia (born 15 December 1976), also spelled as Baichung Bhutia, is an Indian former professional footballer who played as a striker. Bhutia is considered as the torchbearer of Indian football in the international arena. He is often nicknamed the ''Sikkimese Sniper'' because of his shooting skills in football. Three-time Indian Player of the Year I. M. Vijayan described Bhutia as "God's gift to Indian football".
