Sierra Foothills AVA
The Sierra Foothills AVA (established in 1987) is an American Viticultural Area in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada in the U.S. state of California in the United States. Wine grapes were introduced to the area in the nineteenth century during the California Gold Rush. Over 100 wineries are located within its boundaries. Geography and climate The Sierra Foothills AVA contains portions of eight California counties: Amador, Calaveras, El Dorado, Mariposa, Nevada, Placer, Tuolumne and Yuba. The total area is , one of the largest viticultural areas in the state of California. Vallecito, California
Vallecito (Spanish for "Little Valley") is a census-designated place (CDP) in Calaveras County, California, United States. The population was 442 at the 2010 census, up from 427 at the 2000 census. The town is registered as California Historical Landmark #273. Nearby is Moaning Cavern, the largest cave chamber in California, which the Miwok Indians used as a burial ground. History Vallecito was one of California's important early-day mining towns. Gold was discovered here by the Murphy brothers in 1849, and it was originally called "Murphys Diggings," which became "Murphys Old Diggings" when they moved on to greener pastures at "Murphys New Diggings" (which became the town of Murphys). Le Casque Winery
Le Casque Winery is a winery in Loomis, California in the United States. Le Casque Winery is located within the Sierra Foothills AVA and more specifically within Placer County. History Le Casque Wines was founded in 2006 by the Stevenson family in Loomis, California. The first release of Le Casques wines was in 2008. The winery opened at the end of 2010 and the tasting room at the Flower Farm opened in 2013. Kevin Stevenson, the owner and original winemaker had been a systems analyst, musician, and music producer prior to getting into winemaking. Lone Buffalo Vineyards is a winery in Auburn, California in the United States. History Lone Buffalo was started in 2007 by the Maddux family in Auburn, California. They owned a one-acre vineyard. Phil Maddux, who is the winemaker and works as a real estate lawyer, is originally from Sonoma County, California.
