''Side Out'' is a 1990 American comedy-drama sports film about a beach volleyball competition, featuring C. Thomas Howell, Peter Horton, Harley Jane Kozak and Courtney Thorne-Smith. It was the last film from Aurora Productions, Hollywood, Aurora Productions due to many flops. The film was directed by Peter Israelson. Jay Weston (born John Martin Weinstein, March 9, 1929) is an American film producer and restaurant critic. He is known for producing Billy Wilder's final comedy, '' Buddy Buddy,'' and the Academy Award-nominated '' Lady Sings the Blues'', as well as for his popular restaurant newsletter that focuses on the Los Angeles dining scene. He was a regular contributor to the '' Huffington Post''. Early life Weston grew up in a Jewish family in Brooklyn, New York. Kent Steffes
Kent Steffes (born June 23, 1968 in Ann Arbor, Michigan) is a former professional beach volleyball player. Steffes received his AAA beach rating while still attending Palisades High School. He was named the 1986 National High School Player of the Year and was the nation's most highly recruited high school senior. In 1987 with partner Forrest Smith he won the World Championships in San Diego. He enrolled at Stanford University and played for one season before transferring to UCLA where he graduated with a degree in Economics. While a Bruin he joined the AVP Tour full-time in 1988. Steffes earned the AVP No. 1 ranking at age 22, the youngest player to do so in the history of the sport. Ricci Judson Luyties (born May 14, 1962 in Pacific Palisades, California) is a former American volleyball player. He played on the UCLA men's volleyball team and was also a member of the United States men's national volleyball team who received a gold medal at the 1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul, South Korea.
