''Siam Rath'' ( th, สยามรัฐ, , ; lit.: 'Siamese State') is a Thai newspaper founded on 25 June 1950. It was one of the most politically influential newspapers during the latter half of the twentieth century, and was closely associated with former prime minister Kukrit Pramoj Mom Rajawongse Kukrit Pramoj ( th, คึกฤทธิ์ ปราโมช, , ; 20 April 1911 – 9 October 1995) was a Thai politician, scholar and professor. Chatchawal Kong-udom ( th, ชัชวาลล์ คงอุดม, born 12 November 1943), also known as Chat Taopoon (), is a Thai business tycoon and politician. He is known as a '' chao pho'' (godfather) in Bangkok's underground gambling industry, and is an influential local figure in the Tao Pun area of Bangkok's Bang Sue District. He served as an elected senator for Bangkok from 2000 to 2006, and headed the ''Siam Rath'' newspaper. Kukrit Pramoj
Mom Rajawongse Kukrit Pramoj ( th, คึกฤทธิ์ ปราโมช, , ; 20 April 1911 – 9 October 1995) was a Thai politician, scholar and professor. He was Speaker of the House of Representatives of Thailand 1973–1974. He was the thirteenth Prime Minister of Thailand, serving in office from 1975 to 1976 between Seni Pramoj, his brother's, terms. Being the great-grandson of King Rama II, he was a member of the Thai royal family. He also portrayed the Prime Minister of the fictional country of "Sarkhan" in the 1963 motion picture ''The Ugly American'' with Marlon Brando. ''Matichon'' ( th, มติชน, also known as ''Matichon Daily'' to distinguish it from other related publications) is a major Thai-language national daily newspaper. It was founded by a group of progressive writers in 1978, when the country was emerging from the authoritarian government that followed the 6 October 1976 Massacre. ''Matichon'' positions itself as a "quality" upmarket newspaper, as opposed to the usually sensationalist mass-circulation papers. In 1997, it had a daily circulation of about 120,000. It carries a strong focus on politics, and was, along with ''Thai Rath'', among the country's most politically influential newspapers at the time.
