Short Titles Act (Northern Ireland) 1951
Short Titles Act (with its variations) is a stock short title used for legislation in Ireland and the United Kingdom which retroactively confers short titles on a large number of earlier pieces of legislation. The Bill for an Act with this short title will have been known as a Short Titles Bill during its passage through Parliament. Halsbury's Laws said that Short Titles Acts are law reform Acts. In modern times, an Act will authorize a short title to refer to itself, and occasionally additional or alternative short titles are provided, as for example the Senior Courts Act 1981. Short Title
In certain jurisdictions, including the United Kingdom and other Westminster-influenced jurisdictions (such as Canada or Australia), as well as the United States and the Philippines, primary legislation has both a short title and a long title. The long title (properly, the title in some jurisdictions) is the formal title appearing at the head of a statute (such as an act of Parliament or of Congress) or other legislative instrument. The long title is intended to provide a summarised description of the purpose or scope of the instrument. Like other descriptive components of an act (such as the preamble, section headings, side notes, and short title), the long title seldom affects the operative provisions of an act, except where the operative provisions are unclear or ambiguous and the long title provides a clear statement of the legislature's intention. Statute Law Revision Act 2009
The Statute Law Revision Act 2009 is a Statute Law Revision Act enacted by the Oireachtas in Ireland to review Local and Personal Acts passed prior to 1850 and Private Acts passed prior to 1750. The Act repealed a large number of pre-1922 Local and Personal, and Private Acts of Ireland, England, Great Britain and the United Kingdom while preserving a shorter list of statutes that were deemed suitable for retention. Scope The Statute Law Revision Act 2009 followed on from the Statute Law Revision Act 2007 which reviewed Public General Acts applying to Ireland that were enacted before the establishment of the Irish Free State in 1922. The 2009 Act involved a review of Local and Personal legislation pre-1850 and Private legislation pre-1750. It repealed 1,347 Acts of a Private or Local and Personal nature listed in schedule 2 to the Act. It retains 138 Local and Personal, or Private, Acts, which are listed in Schedule 1 to the Act. The Statute Law (Repeals) Act 1978 (c 45) is an Act of the Parliament of the United Kingdom. This Act was partly in force in Great Britain at the end of 2010. It implemented recommendations contained in the ninth report on statute law revision, by the Law Commission and the Scottish Law Commission. Statute Law Revision (Scotland) Act 1964
The Statute Law Revision (Scotland) Act 1964 (c.80) was an Act of the Parliament of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. It was prepared by the Statute Law Committee. It further revised the Pre-Union Acts of the Parliament of Scotland which had previously revised by the Statute Law Revision (Scotland) Act 1906. Its purpose was to repeal obsolete enactments, to take into account changes in the law, and to facilitate the indexing of those Acts in the Chronological Table of the Statutes and the Index to the Statutes. The Bill that became this Act was introduced into the House of Lords. Statute Law Revision Act 1948
The Statute Law Revision Act 1948 is an Act of the Parliament of the United Kingdom. Section 5(3) of the Statute Law Revision Act 1950 provided that this Act, so far as it repealed chapter 34 of the Statute of Westminster 1285 (13 Edw. 1 St. 1 c. 34), was to be deemed not to have extended to Northern Ireland. Short Titles Act 1896
The Short Titles Act 1896 (59 & 60 Vict c 14) is an Act of the Parliament of the United Kingdom. It replaces the Short Titles Act 1892. This Act was retained for the Republic of Ireland by section 2(2)(a) of, and Part 4 of Schedule 1 to, the Statute Law Revision Act 2007. In that country, this Act is one of the Short Titles Acts 1896 to 2007. Section 1 and Schedule 1 authorised the citation of 2,095 earlier Acts by short titles. The Acts given short titles were passed between 1351 and 1893. This Act gave short titles to all public general Acts passed since the Union of England and Scotland and then in force, which had not already been given short titles, except for those omitted from the Revised edition of the statutes, Revised Edition of the Statutes by reason of their local or personal character. The Short Titles Act 1892 (55 & 56 Vict c 10) is an Act of the Parliament of the United Kingdom. It authorised the citation of earlier Acts by short titles and collective titles.
