Shooting At The 1956 Summer Olympics – Men's Trap
The men's trap was a shooting sports event held as part of the Shooting at the 1956 Summer Olympics programme. It was the seventh appearance of the event. The competition was held from 29 November to 1 December 1956 at the shooting ranges in Melbourne. 32 shooters from 18 nations competed. Nations were limited to two shooters each. The event was won by Galliano Rossini of Italy, with his countryman Alessandro Ciceri taking bronze. Between the two Italians was Adam Smelczyński of Poland, earning bronze. They were the first medals in the men's trap for both nations. Ciceri had to win a three-way shoot-off for the bronze medal against the Soviet pair, Nikolay Mogilevsky and Yury Nikandrov; his win in that shoot-off made the men's trap the only shooting event in 1956 with no Soviets on the podium. George Genereux
George Patrick Genereux (March 1, 1935 – April 10, 1989) was a Canadian gold medal-winning trap shooter and physician. Genereux was born in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, the son of Catherine Mary (née Devine), a nurse who was originally from Mount Carmel, Pennsylvania, and Dr. Arthur George Genereux. He is the maternal uncle of actor Brendan Fraser. While still a student at Nutana Collegiate, he won the gold medal in the Olympic Trap at the 1952 Summer Olympics in Helsinki, Finland. He was, at the time, Canada's youngest Olympic champion, a record that stood until 2016. In 1952, he was awarded the Lou Marsh Trophy. He was inducted into Canada's Sports Hall of Fame, the Saskatchewan Sports Hall of Fame, the Saskatoon Sports Hall of Fame, and, the Trapshooting Hall of Fame. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Saskatchewan and studied medicine at McGill University. He died in Saskatoon on April 10, 1989. Zygmunt Kiszkurno
Zygmunt Kiszkurno (6 January 192124 August 2012) was a Polish sport shooter who competed in the Shooting at the 1956 Summer Olympics, men's trap event at the 1956 Summer Olympics in Melbourne, where he finished 15th in a field of 32 competitors. He was born in Brudzew, Turek County and completed high school in 1939 in Warsaw. He trained in Łódź to be a dentist and received a medical degree from the University of Warsaw in 1969. During this time he also served in the Polish Land Forces, eventually achieving the rank of Polkovnik, Pułkownik. Kiszkurno continued shooting competitively following his Olympic appearance and was the Polish national champion in trap shooting in 1957 and 1969. Additionally, he won a silver medal at the 1964 European Shooting Championships. His father Józef Kiszkurno, Józef competed in the same event in the 1952 Summer Olympics, previous year's Olympic Games and placed 9th. Hans Aasnæs
Hans Aasnæs, (15 December 1902 – 4 July 1965) was a Norwegian army officer, Olympic sport shooter and World Champion. A lawyer by education, Aasnæs was a member of the Norwegian Army during the Second World War, fighting against Nazi Germany. After the war, he participated in numerous national and international shooting championships, including five Olympic Games, and won several World Championship medals. Personal life Aasnæs was born in Sande Municipality in Vestfold, the son of farmers Hans Alfred Aasnæs and Anna Kristine Freberg. On 2 May 1928, he married Kristiania-born Eleanor Chambers Poulsson, with whom he had one child before she died in 1933. In 1936 he married Astrid With, with whom he had two children. Through her, Hans Aasnæs was a brother-in-law of wartime resistance member and engineer Bror With. He was also a cousin of fellow Olympic sport shooter Håkon Aasnæs. Hans Aasnæs died in Oslo in 1965.
