Shlomi ( he, שְׁלוֹמִי) is a town in the Northern District of Israel. In it had a population of . History Shlomi was founded as a development town in 1950 by Jewish immigrants from Tunisia and Morocco on the ruins of a Palestinian village of al-Bassa, (which Adolf Neubauer "proposed to identify... with the Batzet of the Talmud"), which had been destroyed during the 1948 Arab–Israeli War. The Arab village was stormed by Haganah troops in May 1948 and almost completely razed. Its residents were either internally displaced or expelled to neighboring countries. The new Jewish settlement was named after a leader from the tribe of Asher, mentioned in the Bible (Num 34:27). Shlomi has been the target of Hezbollah Katyusha rocket attacks on 11 May 2005, Israel's Independence Day, and again on Israel's Independence Day in 2006. Shlomi or Shelomi is a Hebrew name (שלומי or in its Biblical spelling שלמי). It appears in the Bible once, in {{Bibleverse, , Numbers, 34:27, HE as the father of Ahihud, the leader of the Tribe of Asher. It has become popular as a first name in Israel. Shlomi Arbeitman ( he, שלומי ארביטמן; born May 14, 1985) is an Israeli former professional footballer who played as a striker. Club career A young striker, Arbeitman joined Maccabi Haifa for the 2005–06 season. He regularly played for the Israeli under-21 national side and has twice played for the senior national team, scoring a hat-trick against Azerbaijan on his debut in February 2004. Prior to joining Haifa, he played for Beitar Jerusalem making his debut on March 3, 2003, against Ashdod as an 87th-minute substitute.
