Shirinyan-Babajanyan Alliance Of Democrats
The Shirinyan-Babajanyan Alliance of Democrats ( hy, Շիրինյան-Բաբաջանյան Ժողովրդավարների Դաշինք, Shirinyan-Babajanyan Zhoghovrdavarneri Dashink’), also known as the Alliance of Defenders of Democracy Party, is an Armenian political alliance between the For The Republic Party and the Christian-Democratic Rebirth Party. History On 18 May 2021, the For The Republic Party and the Christian-Democratic Rebirth Party announced that they would participate in the 2021 Armenian parliamentary elections as a political alliance. Arman Babajanyan was elected the leader of the alliance. Following the election, the alliance did not enter the National Assembly, gaining just 1.50% of the popular vote, below the required 7% minimum needed for alliances. Arman Babajanyan
Arman Shamiri Babajanyan ( hy, Արման Շամիրի Բաբաջանյան; born 15 January 1976) is an Armenian politician and journalist whօ previously served as an independent member of the National Assembly of Armenia. Babajanyan was previously the chief editor of the ''Zhamanak-Yerevan'' newspaper. In 2006 Babajanyan recognized himself partially guilty for avoiding mandatory service in Armenian Armed Forces and was sentenced to 3.5 years in prison. Babajanyan claimed that the case was political in nature and that orders for his imprisonment came from the president of Armenia. Babajanyan was released from imprisonment in August 2009. Babajanyan was elected to the National Assembly in the 2018 Armenian parliamentary election as a member of the Bright Armenia party's electoral list. CSTO
The Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) is an intergovernmental military alliance in Eurasia consisting of six post-Soviet states: Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, and Tajikistan. The Collective Security Treaty has its origins in the Soviet Armed Forces, which was replaced in 1992 by the United Armed Forces of the Commonwealth of Independent States, and was then itself replaced by the successor armed forces of the respective independent states. Robert Sedraki Kocharyan ( hy, Ռոբերտ Սեդրակի Քոչարյան ; born 31 August 1954) is an Armenian politician. He served as the President of the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic from 1994 to 1997 and Prime Minister of Nagorno-Karabakh from 1992 to 1994. He served as the second President of Armenia between 1998 and 2008 and as Prime Minister of Armenia from 1997 to 1998. Nikol Vovayi Pashinyan ( hy, Նիկոլ Վովայի Փաշինյան, ; born 1 June 1975) is an Armenian politician serving as the prime minister of Armenia since 8 May 2018. A journalist by profession, Pashinyan founded his own newspaper in 1998, which was shut down a year later for libel. He was sentenced for one year for defamation against then Minister of National Security Serzh Sargsyan. He edited the newspaper ''Haykakan Zhamanak'' ("Armenian Times") from 1999 to 2012. 2021 Armenian Parliamentary Election
Snap parliamentary elections were held in Armenia on 20 June 2021. The elections had initially been scheduled for 9 December 2023, but were called earlier due to a political crisis following the 2020 Nagorno-Karabakh War and an alleged attempted coup in February 2021. Nikol Pashinyan, who had served as Prime Minister since 2018, resigned in April 2021 and subsequently the seventh National Assembly was dissolved on 10 May. Pashinyan continued to serve as acting prime minister until the elections were held.
