Shire Of Central Goldfields
Central Goldfields Shire is a local government area in Victoria, Australia, located in the central part of the state. It covers an area of and, in June 2018 had a population of 13,209. It includes the towns of Bealiba, Carisbrook, Dunolly, Maryborough and Talbot. It was formed in 1995 from the amalgamation of the City of Maryborough, most of the Shire of Tullaroop, and parts of the Shire of Bet Bet and Shire of Talbot and Clunes. The Shire is governed and administered by the Central Goldfields Shire Council; its seat of local government and administrative centre is located at the council headquarters in Maryborough, it also has a service centre located in Talbot. The Shire is named after the region having historically been a major goldfields region in central Victoria. The Shire of Bet Bet was a local government area located about northwest of Melbourne, the state capital of Victoria, Australia. The shire covered an area of , and existed from 1861 until 1995. History Bet Bet was first incorporated as a road district on 18 January 1861, and became a shire on 20 September 1864. On 1 October 1915, two boroughs were united with Bet Bet; Tarnagulla Borough, established on 12 August 1857, with an area of , and Dunolly Borough, established on 21 May 1858, with an area of . Amherst is a former municipality and gold rush town situated within the Shire of Central Goldfields in Victoria, Australia. Much of the original township has been destroyed by fire, and little remains other than Amherst Cemetery at 235 Avoca Road, Talbot. Geography Amherst is located west of Talbot and north west of Melbourne. In its heyday, Amherst was situated in the middle of a gold belt long and wide. Nowadays, the size of Amherst is approximately . Four parks cover nearly 7% of this total area. The town mostly resembles an uneven paddock with little to show of its colourful and significant history. Nevertheless, Amherst is surrounded by old gold workings, and there is State forest to the north. The Amherst vineyard was planted in 1989 on land south east of Avoca. Adelaide Lead
Adelaide Lead is a locality in Victoria, Australia, site of a former settlement, located on Old Avoca Road, south-west of Maryborough, west of the Paddy Ranges State Park, in the Shire of Central Goldfields. Located on the northern slopes of the Central Highlands, 225 metres above sea level, the area is naturally characterised by Box-Ironbark forest. Remnants of aboriginal settlement include rock wells beside the Possum Gully Road. Adelaide Lead began as a mining settlement, and covered about along the banks of Timor Creek. A state school operated from 1863 to 1954. The building, which still stands, was later used as a community hall in which Saturday night 'old time' dances were held until the late 1970s. Hugh Delahunty
Hugh Francis Delahunty (born 28 June 1949) is an Australian politician. He was a National Party member of the Victorian Legislative Assembly from 1999 to 2014, representing the electorates of Wimmera (1999–2002) and Lowan (2002–2014). He served as Minister for Sport and Recreation and Minister for Veterans Affairs in the Baillieu and Napthine Coalition governments from 2010 to 2014.
