Shihad (album)
''Shihad'' is the third studio album released by New Zealand rock band, Shihad. Released in New Zealand in September 1996 on the Wildside Records label, it is sometimes known as "the fish album" - a reference to the fish that feature in the album's artwork. The album was dedicated to the memory of the band's manager and friend, Gerald Dwyer, who had died earlier that year. The album was recorded at York Street Studios, Auckland, New Zealand and produced & engineered by Malcolm Welsford. Tracks include the singles "La La Land", "A Day Away", "Home Again" and "Yr Head Is A Rock". "It's A Go" was released as a single in Europe and "Ghost From The Past" as a single in Australia. "Home Again" went on to be one of New Zealand's biggest hits of all time. Shihad
Shihad are a rock band formed in Wellington, New Zealand in 1988. The band consists of founders Tom Larkin (drums, backing vocals, samplers), Phil Knight (lead guitar, synthesiser, backing vocals) and Jon Toogood (lead vocals, rhythm guitar), who were joined by Karl Kippenberger (bass guitar, backing vocals) in 1991. The band were known as Pacifier between 2002 and 2004. Six of Shihad's studio albums have peaked at number one–'' The General Electric'' (October 1999), ''Pacifier'' (September 2002), '' Beautiful Machine'' (April 2008), '' Ignite'' (September 2010), '' FVEY'' (August 2014) and '' Old Gods'' (October 2021). York Street Studio
York Street Recording Studio was a Recording Studio based in Auckland, New Zealand. Founded and built by producer and engineer Martin Williams, producer Malcolm Welsford and Jaz Coleman it quickly became New Zealand's leading music recording, mixing and mastering facility. In 2000 the studio was purchased by software developer Adrien de Croy and was then managed by Jeremy McPike. In April, 2014, though at that time still very busy, the Studios closed due to its 21-year lease, and was sold. Manager Jeremy McPike then went to work at Roundhead Studios. The Studio The studio had a vintage 1974 EMI Neve. One of only 7 made. The recording area was a main room and mezzanine, with two adjoining isolation rooms and a third separate isolation booth. Malcolm Welsford
Malcolm Welsford is a New Zealand Record Producer and is best known for his work with Shihad, The Feelers and Supergroove. Early career Welsford's professional recording career began in 1984 at a small largely unknown Studio called Frontier Studios, Wellington New Zealand. Frontier was located in the same building as Marmalade Audio and was best known for recording local Reggae bands on 1” 16 Track Tape. In 1986 he became a freelance engineer at Marmalade Studios until relocating to Auckland in 1989 where he mainly worked out of Mandrill Studiosbr>and Phil Rudd's Phil Rudd own personal Studio. ''Killjoy'' is the second full-length album released by New Zealand rock band Shihad. This album was released in May 1995. It is their first album to go gold in New Zealand.
