Sheper
Sheper (definite form: ''Sheperi'') is a community in the Gjirokastër County, southern Albania. Sheperi is the largest village of the former Zagori, Albania, Zagori municipality. At the 2015 local government reform it became part of the municipality Libohovë. It is mountain village located 30 km from the city of Gjirokastër, about 800 meters above sea level. Due to heavy migration, its current population is about 100 inhabitants. Zagori, Albania
Zagoria ( rup, Zaguria or ) is a former municipality in the Gjirokastër County, southern Albania. During the 2015 local government reform, Zagoria became a subdivision of the municipality Libohovë. The population at the 2011 census was 411. Since 2018, the region is at the centre of the expanded Zagoria Nature Park. Zagoria is also considered to be a distinct "ethnographic region" (Albanian: ''krahina etnografike''), traditionally consisting of 10 settlements: Sheper, Nivan, Ndëran, Topovë, Konckë, Hoshteve, Lliar, Vithuq, Doshnicë and Zhej. Geography The region primarily is defined by the Zagoria valley, which is 27 kilometres long, with a watershed of 171 kilometres squared. Its highest point is Mount Arapi at 2156 meters above sea level, while the lowest is at 350 meters. Andon Zako Çajupi
Andon Zako Çajupi (27 March 186611 July 1930) was an Albanian lawyer, playwright, poet and rilindas. Biography He was born in the village of Sheper, Upper Zagoria, Albania, then Ottoman Empire, on 27 March 1866. Çajupi's father, Harito Zako, was a tobacco merchant, with a business extending throughout the then-Ottoman Empire and also into Italy and other parts of western Europe. Çajupi's elementary education was undertaken at the nearest Greek elementary school. In 1882, he moved to Alexandria, where he studied French for five years at ''Sainte Catherine des Lazaristes''. During his time in Alexandria, Çajupi met several western European lawyers representing businesses in Egypt. These meetings convinced him to study law in Switzerland, and in 1887, Çajupi arrived in Geneva, where he studied law for five years. Jorgo Bulo
Jorgo Bulo (27 April 1939 – 26 November 2015) was an Albanian philologist, historian, and literary critic. Since 2003 up to his death (2015) he was a member of the Albanian Academy of Arts and Sciences. Bulo was born on 27 April 1939 in Sheper, Zagori region of Gjirokastër District in Albania. He studied Albanian language and literature in the Faculty of History and Philology of the University of Tirana, graduating in 1960. In 1966 he started working as a scientific cooperator in the Institute of Linguistics and Literature in Tirana. He participated in the Orthography Congress of 1972, sq, Kongresi i Drejtshkrimit, where the orthographic rules of the Albanian language were standardized, and was a signatory. Kiço Ngjela
Kiço Ngjela (25 December 1917 – 16 June 2002) was an Albanian politician of the Albanian Party of Labour (PPSh). Ngjela was born in Sheper (Zagori, Albania, Zagori region) of the Gjirokastër District in Albania. In 1945 he became a member of the Constituent Assembly (Alb: ''Asambleja Kushtetuese'') which declared Albania as Republic. After 1950, he was a member of the Parliament of Albania, People's Assembly (Alb: ''Kuvendi Popullor''), representing the Tirana District until 10 October 1975. Later, he was temporarily deputy chairman of the State Planning Commission. On 6 February 1948, Ngjela succeeded Ramadan Çitaku as Ministry of Finance (Albania), Minister of Finances in the government of Prime Minister Enver Hoxha. Mihal Kasso
Mihal Kasso or Michael Kassos ( el, Μιχαήλ Κάσσος) was a Greeks, Greek politician, member and chairman of the Parliament of Albania, Albanian Parliament, as well as representative of the Greeks in Albania, Greek community in Albania. Kasso was born of Greeks, Greek origin in the village of Sheper, Zagori, Albania, Zagoria, then Ottoman Empire (modern southern Albania). Libohovë
Libohovë ( sq-definite, Libohova) is a town and a municipality in southern Albania. It is overlooked by Libohovë Castle and has a main street with views across the Drino valley. Libohovë is at the foot of the Bureto Mountain. The region forms part of the Zagori Regional Nature Park located in Zagori region. The municipality was formed at the 2015 local government reform by the merger of the former municipalities Libohovë, Qendër Libohovë and Zagori, that became municipal units.
