Shengxing Station
Sheng Hsing (), also spelled Shengsing, Shengxing or Shengzing, is a railway station on the Taiwan Railways Administration West Coast line ( Former Mountain line). It is located in Sanyi Township, Miaoli County, Taiwan. It is now a tourist spot surrounded by a cluster of tea shops and traditional Hakka restaurants. History The station was completed in 1905 and functioned as a station on the Mountain line section of the TRA's West Coast line for nearly the rest of the century. At the time of opening, the line was the highest stretch of the main north-south line. The station itself is located at an altitude of 402 meters above sea level. However, due to the steepness of the West Coast line in the vicinity of the station, the TRA constructed a new, more easily navigable section of the Mountain line. Sanyi, Miaoli
Sanyi Township () is a rural township in southern Miaoli County, Taiwan. It is famous for its (woodcarving) industry, earning it the name the ''Woodcarving Kingdom of Taiwan''. Geography Sanyi is located in the mountains of northwestern Taiwan. On its northeastern boundary is Sanjiao Mountain at 567 meters, and to the east lies Huoyan Mountain at 602 meters. Miaoli County
Miaoli County ( Mandarin Pinyin: ''miáo lì xiàn''; Hakka PFS: ''Mèu-li̍t-yen''; Hokkien POJ: ''Biâu-le̍k-koān'' or ''Miâu-le̍k-koān'') is a county in western Taiwan. Miaoli is adjacent with Hsinchu County and Hsinchu City to the north, Taichung to the south, and borders the Taiwan Strait to the west. Former Mountain Line
The Former Mountain line () is a railway branch line in Taiwan operated by the Taiwan Railways Administration. The name literally means "old Mountain line" (another name for the Taichung line) and can refer to any section of the Taichung line that ceased operations when it was replaced by a newer rail. However, the term is most widely used to refer to the segment between Sanyi and Houli stations. The line was completed in 1903 and began operations in 1908. Operantions were suspended on September 24, 1998 with the opening of a newer route to the west, and all stations between Sanyi and Houli closed down. Between June 5–9, 2010, to promote tourism, the Former Mountain Line resumed service between Sanyi and Tai'an Old station using a steam locomotive numbered CK124. West Coast Line (Taiwan)
Western Trunk line () is a railway line of the Taiwan Railways Administration in western Taiwan. It is by far the busiest line, having served over 171 million passengers in 2016. The total length of the line is 404.5 km. The line is an official classification of physical tracks and does not correspond to particular services. It is connected to Taichung line (''mountain line''; ) at Zhunan and Changhua. Many services turn inland to take the Taichung route, then reconnect back to the main line (West Coast line). Hakka cuisine is the cooking style of the Hakka people, and it may also be found in parts of Taiwan and in countries with significant overseas Hakka communities. Qishan Train Station
Qishan Station () is a former train station in Cishan District, Kaohsiung, Taiwan. History The station was originally built by the Japanese government in Taiwan in 1912 to transport sugar cane, rice, bananas and people along the . In the following decade, the railway began to serve passengers. The railway was decommissioned in 1978 with only the station buildings left intact. Formally abandoned in 1982, it was designated a municipal historic building in 2005, then underwent renovation and was reopened on 27 July 2009 as a tourist attraction in a ceremony attended by Kaohsiung County Magistrate Yang Chiu-hsing.
