Shek Pai Wan Estate
Shek Pai Wan Estate () is a public housing estate in Shek Pai Wan of Aberdeen, Hong Kong, on a hill to the east of the town centre. It comprises eight standard residential blocks, a non-standard small household block, a primary school, a shopping centre and a bus terminus. Background Shek Pai Wan Estate was a resettlement estate and it consisted of seven blocks built between 1966 and 1968. In 1985, Block 2 was found to have structural problems by the Hong Kong Housing Authority, so it was firstly demolished in 1988. The estate started redevelopment in 1998 and the redevelopment project was divided into three phases. However, Phases 1 and 2 were combined and renamed as Phase 1 whereas Phase 3 was renamed as Phase 2 later. There are seven new blocks completed in 2005 and 2007 respectively. Aberdeen () is an area on southwest Hong Kong Island in Hong Kong. Administratively, it is part of the Southern District. While the name "Aberdeen" could be taken in a broad sense to encompass the areas of Aberdeen (town), Wong Chuk Hang, Ap Lei Chau, Tin Wan, Wah Kwai Estate and Wah Fu Estate, it is more often used to refer to the town only. Shek Pai Wan or Aberdeen Bay is a bay between Aberdeen on Hong Kong Island and Ap Lei Chau Ap Lei Chau or Aberdeen Island is an island of Hong Kong, located off Hong Kong Island next to Aberdeen Harbour and Aberdeen Channel. Population transfer or resettlement is a type of mass migration, often imposed by state policy or international authority and most frequently on the basis of ethnicity or religion but also due to economic development. Wong Chuk Hang Estate () was a public housing estate in Staunton Creek, Hong Kong. The estate had ten residential blocks and was cleared in 2007. The estate has been replaced by the MTR Wong Chuk Hang station and Wong Chuk Hang Depot. Background Wong Chuk Hang Estate was the only Government Low Cost Housing Estate on Hong Kong Island in the 1960s and the 1970s. It consisted of 10 residential blocks that were developed in 3 phases. Phase 1 (Block 1 and 2), Phase 2 (Block 3 to 6) and Phase 3 (Block 7 to 10) were completed in 1968, 1972 and 1973 respectively. In 1973, the estate was renamed Wong Chuk Hang Estate. In 1985, Block 9 was found to have structural problems by Hong Kong Housing Authority, and was demolished in 1988.
