Sheila Ramani
Sheila Ramani (2 March 1932 – 15 July 2015), also known as Sheila Kewalramani, was an Indian actress who was introduced into Bollywood by the film-maker Chetan Anand. She is known for her role in the movie ''Taxi Driver''. She was born in Sindh and was one of the few actresses from Sindh to join the Indian film industry. Personal life Ramani was crowned Miss Shimla in the early 1950s. She was mostly seen as an upper-class mod girl in the roles she portrayed in many movies. She played the lead in a Pakistani film. Ramani went back to India and starred in further movies in Mumbai. In the later part of her career, she was reduced to obscure films. Later on in her life Ramani married and moved to the United States. She lived her last years in Mhow, a small cantonment town in the Indore district of Madhya Pradesh. She died on 15 July 2015. Sindhis ( sd, سنڌي Perso-Arabic: सिन्धी Devanagari; ) are an Indo-Aryan ethnic group who speak the Sindhi language and are native to the province of Sindh in Pakistan. After the partition of British Indian empire in 1947, many Sindhi Hindus and Sindhi Sikhs migrated to the newly independent Dominion of India and other parts of the world. ''Funtoosh'' is a 1956 Hindi film directed by Chetan Anand. The film stars Dev Anand, Sheila Ramani and K. N. Singh. It was the ninth highest-grossing film of 1956, and was declared a "Hit". The music of the movie was an instant hit and songs such as "Dukhi Man Mere" were topping Binaca Geet Mala. Other hits were "Woh Dekhe To Unki Inayat", "Hamen Aaj Koi Na Chhediyo", "Ae Meri Topi Palat Ke Aa" and "Denewala Jab bhi Deta". The Songs cemented the bond of S. D. Chetan Anand (3 January 1921 – 6 July 1997) was a Hindi film producer, screenwriter and director from India, whose debut film, ''Neecha Nagar'', was awarded the Grand Prix Prize (Now Golden Palm) at the first ever Cannes Film Festival in 1946. Later he co-founded Navketan Films with his younger brother Dev Anand in 1949. Biography Early life Anand was born on 3 January 1921, in Lahore, British India, to well-to-do advocate Pishori Lal Anand. He went to Gurukul Kangri Vishwavidyalaya to study Hindu scriptures and graduated in English from Government College Lahore. He remained a member of Indian National Congress in the 1930s, subsequently worked for the BBC and taught at the Doon School, Dehradun for a while, before coming down to Bombay to sell a film script.
