Sheikh Kamal International Stadium ( bn, শেখ কামাল আন্তর্জাতিক স্টেডিয়াম), also known as Cox's Bazar Cricket Stadium ( bn, কক্সবাজার ক্রিকেট স্টেডিয়াম), is a newly developed cricket stadium in the tourist town of Cox's Bazar, Bangladesh. It was built on leased land from Cox's Bazar Golf Course. The stadium was a shortlisted venue for the 2014 ICC World Twenty20, however it did not host any matches due to the construction of the ground not finishing in time for the tournament. History The first match played at the stadium was a Women's One Day International match between Bangladesh and Pakistan on 5 March 2014. Cox's Bazar
Cox's Bazar (; bn, কক্সবাজার, Kôksbajar; ) is a city, fishing port, tourism centre, and district headquarters in Southeastern Bangladesh. It is located south of the city of Chittagong. Cox's Bazar is also known by the name ''Panowa,'' which translates literally as "yellow flower". Another old name was "Palongkee". The city covers an area of with 27 mahallas and 9 wards and as of 2011 had a population of 265,500. Cox's Bazar is connected by road and air with Chittagong. Bangladesh National Under-19 Cricket Team
The Bangladesh Under-19 cricket team represents the nation of Bangladesh in cricket at Under-19 level. They have been playing official Under-19 ODI matches since 1997 including competing in the last twelve World Cups and are the defending champion. They won the Under-19 Cricket World Cup for the first time in 2020. They have also played eight youth Tests since 2004. Cricket Grounds In Bangladesh
Cricket is a bat-and-ball game played between two teams of eleven players on a field at the centre of which is a pitch with a wicket at each end, each comprising two bails balanced on three stumps. The batting side scores runs by striking the ball bowled at one of the wickets with the bat and then running between the wickets, while the bowling and fielding side tries to prevent this (by preventing the ball from leaving the field, and getting the ball to either wicket) and dismiss each batter (so they are "out"). Means of dismissal include being bowled, when the ball hits the stumps and dislodges the bails, and by the fielding side either catching the ball after it is hit by the bat, but before it hits the ground, or hitting a wicket with the ball before a batter can cross the crease in front of the wicket. Sheikh Kamal International Cricket Stadium ( bn, শেখ কামাল আন্তর্জাতিক ক্রিকেট স্টেডিয়াম ) is located beside the Madhumati River, Gopalganj, Bangladesh. Various types of sports events of Gopalganj district take place here. This stadium was redeveloped for the 2014 ICC World Twenty20. The stadium has an underground water drainage system, fully roofed gallery, giant screen, trivision side screen, floodlights and beautiful press box. 2016 ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup
The 2016 ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup was an international limited-overs cricket tournament held in Bangladesh from 22 January to 14 February 2016. It was the eleventh edition of the Under-19 Cricket World Cup, and the second to be held in Bangladesh, after the 2004 event. The World Cup was contested by the national under-19 teams of sixteen International Cricket Council (ICC) members, and all matches played were held under-19 One Day International (ODI) status. Ten teams qualified automatically for the tournament through their status as ICC full members, while five others qualified by winning regional qualifying events. The final place at the tournament was taken by the winner of the 2015 Under-19 World Cup Qualifier, which was contested by the runners-up at the five regional qualifiers. The South African Under-19 cricket team have been playing official Under-19 test matches since 1995. A One Day International (ODI) is a form of limited overs cricket, played between two teams with international status, in which each team faces a fixed number of overs, currently 50, with the game lasting up to 9 hours. The Cricket World Cup, generally held every four years, is played in this format. One Day International matches are also called Limited Overs Internationals (LOI), although this generic term may also refer to Twenty20 International matches.
