Shaun Griffiths
Shaun Griffiths (born 24 November 1991) is an English professional darts player who currently plays in the Professional Darts Corporation (PDC) events. Career Griffiths won consecutive Winmau World Youth Masters titles in 2007 and 2008. In 2010, he won the British Teenage Open and reached the quarter-finals of the 2011 PDC Under-21 World Championship, losing 3–4 to Michael van Gerwen. Griffiths qualified for the 2011 BDO World Darts Championship by defeating John Henderson, John Lakeman and Andy Boulton. In the first round he lost 0–3 in sets to Joey ten Berge. Griffiths qualified for the 2011 PDC Pro Tour as one of four semi-finalists from the first day of the Q School. His best result of the year came at the Bobby Bourn Memorial Players Championship, when he lost to James Wade in the last 16. He is sponsored by the Sky Sports darts commentator John Gwynne. 2011 PDC Pro Tour
The 2011 PDC Pro Tour was a series of non-televised darts tournaments organised by the Professional Darts Corporation (PDC). They were the Professional Dart Players Association (PDPA) Players Championships and the UK Open Qualifiers. This year there were 39 PDC Pro Tour events – 31 Players Championships and 8 UK Open Qualifiers. Prize money Prize money for each Players Championship and UK Open Qualifier increased from £31,200 in 2010 to £34,600 in 2011. In addition, £400 per Pro Tour event was reserved for a nine-dart finish. Should this not be won in an event, it was carried over to the next event, and so on until a nine-dart finish was achieved. Once the prize fund was won, it reverted to £400 for the next event. John Gwynne (commentator)
Richard John Gwynne (23 April 1945 – 9 July 2022) was an English teacher, sports commentator and reporter. He was best known for his darts commentary, and worked at Sky Sports for twenty years. Early life Gwynne was born in Shropshire in 1945 and moved to Manchester in 1957. He attended Chorlton Grammar School. Upon leaving, he went into teaching, and taught English and was Deputy Housemaster (Fisher) at Moston Brook High School in Manchester. Broadcasting career Gwynne was a commentator for the PDC darts tournaments which air on Sky Sports. He commentated on the first ever PDC World Championship in 1994, and the 2016 World Championship was his last tournament for Sky Sports. Gwynne's first media job was covering speedway at Belle Vue in Manchester for Piccadilly Radio in 1980. He moved onto local north-west football. James Wade
James Martin Wade (born 6 April 1983) is an English professional darts player, currently playing in the Professional Darts Corporation (PDC). He became the youngest player to win a major PDC title, when he won the 2007 World Matchplay at the age of 24. This record has since been broken by Michael van Gerwen. Wade has won eleven PDC majors, third in the all-time list behind Phil Taylor and Michael van Gerwen. He is widely considered one of the best left handed darts players of all time. Wade has also won the World Grand Prix in 2007 and 2010, the UK Open in 2008, 2011 and 2021, the Premier League in 2009, the Championship League in 2010, the Masters in 2014, the European Championship and the World Series of Darts Finals in 2018. Bobby Bourn Memorial Players Championship
The Bobby Bourn Memorial Players Championship was a darts tournament staged by the Professional Darts Corporation (PDC). It originally took place as a warm up to the Stan James World Matchplay in Blackpool every July. However, in 2009, the tournament moved to a new date in January and a new venue at the Doncaster Dome. In 2010, the tournament was moved to spring and held at the Barnsley Metrodome. The tournament is named after Bobby Bourn, who had an extensive involvement in the Whitley Bay darts league for over 30 years until his death in 2002. Bourn also performed the role of "player marshal" at PDC televised events, providing assistance to the professional players when they competed and ensuring they were in the right place at the right time before going out for matches.
