Shanik Berman
Shanik Berman (Mexico, 1945) is a Mexican journalist. She was born in Mexico City to Jewish immigrant parents from Slovakia who immigrated after surviving the Second World War. She has studied Literature and Languages in Mexico, Paris and the United States. Berman became a showbiz reporter since early 1990s and has since then become one of the icons of Showbiz Journalism in Mexico. Her staple show '' Intimamente Shanik'' was a pioneer in Mexican Television in handling previously censored subjects such as sex, divorces, infidelity, etc. Currently she writes a column for the most important newspapers in México such as: ESTO (Sports Newspaper), El SOl de México, La Prensa, Periódico Basta y Periódico Heraldo. Radio Fórmula is a Mexican talk radio network. Founded in 1968, Radio Fórmula programs are broadcast on more than 100 stations in Mexico as well as several stations in the United States. It is the flagship product of Grupo Fórmula, which also owns the TeleFórmula cable news network and PM Onstreet, an outdoor advertising firm. History Grupo Formula traces its beginnings to 1968, when several Mexico City stations were split from Emilio Azcárraga Vidaurreta’s Radiópolis system. Among these was XEDF-AM 970. The history of the Jews in Mexico can be said to have begun in 1519 with the arrival of ''Conversos'', often called ''Marranos'' or “Crypto-Jews,” referring to those Jews forcibly converted to Catholicism and that then became subject to the Spanish Inquisition. During the colonial period (1521–1821), a number of Jews came to Mexico especially during the period of the Iberian Union (1580–1640), when Spain and Portugal were ruled by the same monarch. That political circumstance allowed freer movement by Portuguese crypto-Jewish merchants into Spanish America.
