Shaker Heights is a city in Cuyahoga County, Ohio, United States. As of the 2020 Census, the city population was 29,439. Shaker Heights is an inner-ring streetcar suburb of Cleveland, abutting the eastern edge of the city's limits. In July 1911, a petition by property owners was successful in detaching a long strip of land from the south of Cleveland Heights, to be named Shaker Village. In November 1911, the voters of Shaker Village formed Shaker Heights Village, which was incorporated in January 1912. It is the birthplace of the actor Paul Newman. Cuyahoga County Public Library (CCPL) has 27 branches that serve 47 communities in Cuyahoga County, Ohio. CLEVNET is a library consortium headquartered at Cleveland Public Library. It was founded in 1982 and includes over 40 public library systems in northeast Ohio. CLEVNET provides access to more than 12 million titles of books, movies, music and e-books. There are several national systems for assessing, evaluating, or otherwise rating the quality of public libraries. Shaker Heights City School District
The Shaker Heights City School District is a school district headquartered in Shaker Heights, Ohio, United States, in Greater Cleveland. The system serves all residents of the city of Shaker Heights and about of the City of Cleveland around Shaker Square. The Cleveland portion has been a part of the school district since the 1920s. The residents of the Cleveland portion may vote in school board elections and use the school facilities and they pay the same school taxes that residents in the Shaker Heights portion pay.
