Shajahanpur Upazila
Shajahanpur Upazila ( bn, শাজাহানপুর উপজেলা) is an upazila of Bogra District in the Division of Rajshahi, Bangladesh. Created in 2003, it is the newest upazila in the District. Geography Shajahanpur Upazila has a total area of . It borders Bogra Sadar Upazila to the north, Gabtali and Dhunat upazilas to the east, Sherpur Upazila to the south, Nandigram Upazila to the southwest, and Kahaloo Upazila to the west. The Karatoya River flows south through the upazila. Demographics According to the 2011 Bangladesh census, Shajahanpur Upazila had 72,685 households and a population of 289,804, 21.4% of whom lived in urban areas. 8.9% of the population was under the age of 5. The literacy rate (age 7 and over) was 57.7%, compared to the national average of 51.8%. An ''upazila'' ( bn, উপজেলা, upôzela, lit=sub-district pronounced: ), formerly called ''thana'', is an administrative region in Bangladesh, functioning as a sub-unit of a district. Nandigram Upazila ( bn, নন্দীগ্রাম উপজেলা) is an upazila of Bogra District in the Division of Rajshahi, Bangladesh. Nandigram Thana was established in 1932 and was converted into an upazila in 1983. It is named after its administrative center, the town of Nandigram. Geography Nandigram Upazila has a total area of . It is bounded on the west by the Nagar River (across which lies Naogaon District). It borders Kahaloo and Shajahanpur upazilas to the north, Sherpur Upazila to the east, Natore District to the south and west, and Adamdighi Upazila to the west. 2011 Bangladesh Census
In 2011, the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics, conducted a national census in Bangladesh, which provided a provisional estimate of the total population of the country as 142,319,000. The previous decennial census was the 2001 census. Data were recorded from all of the districts and upazilas and main cities in Bangladesh including statistical data on population size, households, sex and age distribution, marital status, economically active population, literacy and educational attainment, religion, number of children etc. Bangladesh and India also conducted their first joint census of areas along their border in 2011. According to the census, Hindus constituted 8.5 per cent of the population as of 2011, down from 9.6 per cent in the 2001 census. Bangladesh have a population of 144,043,697 as per 2011 census report. Karatoya River
Karatoya River (also spelt Korotoa River) is a small stream in Rajshahi Division of Bangladesh. Etymology The name of the river is formed of two Sanskrit words ''kar'' (hand) and ''toa'' (water). Course The Karatoya, known as Phuljhur rises in the Baikunthapur jungles in the extreme north-west of Jalpaiguri district (West Bengal, India) and forms for some distance the boundary between Dinajpur and Rangpur districts. It, then, meanders through Rangpur and Bogura. In the south of Bogura district, it receives the Halhalia and the united stream is then known as Phuljhur. It leaves Bogura at Chanda kona and flowing in a southerly direction past Raiganj and Shujapur is joined by the Ichhamati at Nalka.
