Nandigram Upazila ( bn, নন্দীগ্রাম উপজেলা) is an upazila of Bogra District in the Division of Rajshahi, Bangladesh. Nandigram Thana was established in 1932 and was converted into an upazila in 1983. It is named after its administrative center, the town of Nandigram. Geography Nandigram Upazila has a total area of . It is bounded on the west by the Nagar River (across which lies Naogaon District). It borders Kahaloo and Shajahanpur upazilas to the north, Sherpur Upazila to the east, Natore District to the south and west, and Adamdighi Upazila to the west. An ''upazila'' ( bn, উপজেলা, upôzela, lit=sub-district pronounced: ), formerly called ''thana'', is an administrative region in Bangladesh, functioning as a sub-unit of a district. Naogaon District
Naogaon District ( bn, নওগাঁ, Nôugã) is a district in northern Bangladesh, part of the Rajshahi Division. It is named after its headquarters, the city of Naogaon in Naogaon Sadar Upazila. Demographics According to the 2022 Census of Bangladesh, Naogaon District had a population of 2,784,598, of which 13,74,312 were males and 14,08,840 females. The rural population was 23,67,082 (85.01%) while the urban population was 4,16,243 (14.99%). Naogaon district had a literacy rate of 72.14% for the population 7 years and above: 74.66% for males and 69.70% for females. This is up from 44.39% in 2001 and 28.40% in 1991. 2011 Bangladesh Census
In 2011, the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics, conducted a national census in Bangladesh, which provided a provisional estimate of the total population of the country as 142,319,000. The previous decennial census was the 2001 census. Data were recorded from all of the districts and upazilas and main cities in Bangladesh including statistical data on population size, households, sex and age distribution, marital status, economically active population, literacy and educational attainment, religion, number of children etc. Bangladesh and India also conducted their first joint census of areas along their border in 2011. According to the census, Hindus constituted 8.5 per cent of the population as of 2011, down from 9.6 per cent in the 2001 census. Bangladesh have a population of 144,043,697 as per 2011 census report. Adamdighi Upazila
Adamdighi Upazila ( bn, আদমদিঘী উপজেলা) is an upazila of Bogra District in the Division of Rajshahi, Bangladesh. Adamdighi Thana was established in 1821 and was converted into an upazila in 1983. It is named after its administrative center, the town of Adamdighi. The name derives from Adam's Dighi, which means Adam's Tank. Adam was a great Muslim saint or dervish, known as Baba Adam ( bn, বাবা আদম). Etymology Baba Adam is very popular among the people of the locality, and commands as much respect from Hindus as from Muslims. Baba Adam is said to have been a contemporary of the famous Rani Bhabani (1716–1795) of Natore, who it is said, with her characteristics magnanimity had a tank dug at the place and dedicated it to the saintly ''fakir'' in honour of his supernatural powers. Natore District
Natore district is a district of Rajshahi Division located in northern Bangladesh. It borders the metropolitan city of Rajshahi, and used to be part of Rajshahi district. History Natore was the District Headquarters of Rajshahi from 1769 to 1825. Administrative Natore subdivision was established in 1825 under Rajshahi district, on the eve of the shifting of the headquarters. During the Bangladesh Liberation War in 1971, a battle was fought between the Pakistani army and the freedom fighters of Mukti Bahini on March 29. About 40 members of the Pakistani army including Major Aslam and Captain Ishaq were killed. On 5 May 1971 Pakistani Army killed 42 employees of North Bengal Sugar Mills ( Lalpur) including the general manager of the mill, Lieutenant Anwarul Azim. Shajahanpur Upazila ( bn, শাজাহানপুর উপজেলা) is an upazila of Bogra District in the Division of Rajshahi, Bangladesh. Created in 2003, it is the newest upazila in the District. The Asiatic Society of Bangladesh is a non political and non profit research organisation registered under both Society Act of 1864 and NGO Bureau, Government of Bangladesh. The Asiatic Society of Bangladesh was established as the Asiatic Society of East Pakistan in Dhaka in 1952 by a number of Muslim leaders, and renamed in 1972. Nagar River ( bn, নাগর নদ) begins in the Bogra District of Bangladesh and ends in Natore District. Early history The Nagar is a branch of the Karatoya and serves as the boundary between the Shibganj and Bogra thanas, for about . It then passes between the former and the Dhupchanchia Upazila and then Adamdighi down to the village of Champapur.
