Vinayak Damodar Savarkar (), Marathi pronunciation: inaːjək saːʋəɾkəɾ also commonly known as Veer Savarkar (28 May 1883 – 26 February 1966), was an Indian politician, activist, and writer. Savarkar developed the Hindu nationalist political ideology of Hindutva while imprisoned at Ratnagiri in 1922. He was a leading figure in the Hindu Mahasabha. He started using the honorific prefix ''Veer'' meaning "brave" since he wrote his autobiography. Savarkar joined the Hindu Mahasabha and popularized the term ''Hindutva'' (Hinduness), previously coined by Chandranath Basu, to create a collective "Hindu" identity as an essence of Bharat (India). Veer Savarkar is a Hindi 2001 Indian film based on the life of Vinayak Damodar Savarkar. This version was released on DVD format. This film was produced by Savarkar Darshan Prathisthan, under the president-ship of Sudhir Phadke. It premiered on 16 November 2001, in Mumbai, New Delhi, Nagpur and six other Indian cities. Rediff.com reports a claim that it is the first movie in the world financed by public donations. On 28 May 2012 its Gujarati language version was released by then Chief Minister of Gujarat, Narendra Modi. The film was screened retrospective on August 13, 2016 at the ''Independence Day Film Festival'' jointly presented by the Indian Directorate of Film Festivals and Ministry of Defense, commemorating 70th Indian Independence Day. Ebrahim Alkazi (18 October 1925 – 4 August 2020) was an Indian theatre director and drama teacher. A rigid disciplinarian, he instilled in his acting students an awe and reverence that they still carry with them, with several of them having had the privilege of continuing the practice and training in the NSD Repertory Company, an introduction made to the National School of Drama by Alkazi.
