Shah Alam (filmmaker)
Shah Alam (born 22 September 1981, Nakha, Basti) is a social activist and documentary film maker. He is founder of Awam Ka Cinema (People's Cinema) & Sunil Janah School of Photography at Chambal Valley. Early life and career Shah Alam born at Nakha, district Basti and he was an alumnus of the Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia Avadh University, Faizabad & Jamia Millia Islamia Jamia Millia Islamia () is a central university located in New Delhi, India. Basti District
Basti district is one of the districts of Uttar Pradesh state, India, and a part of Basti Division. Basti city is the district headquarters. Origin of name and history Basti was originally known as Vaishishthi. The origin of the name Vaishishthi is attributed to the fact that this area was the ashram of Rishi (sage) Vashistha in ancient period. Rama with his younger brother Lakshmana had been here for some time with Rishi Vashistha. The tract comprising the present district was remote and much of it was covered with forest. But gradually the area became inhabitable, for want of recorded and reliable history it cannot, with any degree of certainty, be said how the district came to be known by its present name on account of the original habitation (Basti) having been selected by the Kalhans Raja Udai Raj Singh as a seat of his Raj, an event which probably occurred in the 16th century. Uttar Pradesh (; , 'Northern Province') is a state in northern India. Awam Ka Cinema
Awam ( ur, ) is the Urdu language word for common people or general public. In the early 20th century, the word was extensively used in the Indian subcontinent to refer to the general population. After Partition, the word remained in use in Pakistan, but within India, several new words derived from Sanskrit replaced it, such as Janata, Log or Lok (see: Lok Sabha), Gana or Praja. In India however, the word is used by non-Urdu Hindustani speakers, like for the Hindustani Awam Morcha. Awami is the adjectival form for Awam. Sunil Janah
Sunil Janah (17 April 1918 — 21 June 2012) was an Indian photojournalist and documentary photographer who worked in India in the 1940s. Janah documented India's independence movement, its peasant and labour movements, famines and riots, rural and tribal life, as well as the years of rapid urbanization and industrialization. He was best known for his coverage of the Bengal famine of 1943. The Government of India awarded him the civilian honour of Padma Shri in 2012. Life and work Sunil Janah was born on 17 April 1918 in Dibrugarh, Assam but grew up in Kolkata. He attended St. Xavier's College, Kolkata at the University of Calcutta. There, he joined politically leftist students. Communist politician Puran Chand Joshi urged Janah to abandon his English studies and pursue a career in photography. Jamia Millia Islamia () is a central university located in New Delhi, India. Originally established at Aligarh, United Provinces (present-day Uttar Pradesh, India) during the British Raj in 1920, it moved to its current location in Okhla in 1935. It was given the deemed status by University Grants Commission in 1962. On 26 December 1988, it became a central university. The foundation committee of the university included Abdul Bari Firangi Mahali, Hussain Ahmad Madani, Muhammad Iqbal, Sanaullah Amritsari, Syed Mehmood and others. Its foundation stone was laid by Mahmud Hasan Deobandi, the leader of Silk Letter Movement and the first student of Darul Uloom Deoband. The Chambal Division is an administrative geographical unit of Madhya Pradesh state of India. A river by the name Chambal, a tributary of Yamuna River, forms the boundary between Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh, in the upper part of the Chambal Division.
