XXII no. 1 (1989) It was also used by a variety of Persianate societies, such as the Ottoman Empire, the Kazakh Khanate, the Khanate of Bukhara, the Emirate of Bukhara, the Mughal Empire, the Bengal Sultanate, historical Afghan dynasties, and among Gurkhas. Rather than regarding himself as simply a king of the concurrent dynasty (i.e. European-style monarchies), each Iranian ruler regarded himself as the Shahanshah ( fa, شاهنشاه, translit=Šâhanšâh, label=none, ) or Padishah ( fa, پادشاه, translit=Pâdešâh, label=none, ) in the sense of a continuation of the original Persian Empire. Etymology The word descends from Old Persian ''xšāyaθiya'' "king", which used to be considered a borrowing from Median, as it was compared to Avestan ''xšaθra-'', "power" and " ...

Iranian Rial
The rial ( fa, ریال ایران, riyâl-è Irân; sign: ﷼; abbreviation: Rl (singular) and Rls (plural) or IR in Latin; ISO code: IRR) is the official currency of Iran. There is no official symbol for the currency but the Iranian standard ISIRI 820 defined a symbol for use on typewriters (mentioning that it is an invention of the standards committee itself) and the two Iranian standards ISIRI 2900 and ISIRI 3342 define a character code to be used for it. The Unicode Standard has a compatibility character defined . A proposal has been agreed to by the Iranian parliament to drop four zeros, by replacing the rial with a new currency called the toman, the name of a previous Iranian currency, at the rate of 1 toman = 10,000 rials. History The rial was first introduced in 1798 as a coin worth 1,250 dinars or one-eighth of a '' toman''. In 1825, the rial ceased to be issued, with the qiran subdivided into 20 shahi or 1,000 dinars and was worth one-tenth of a toman, being is ...

Dirac Comb
In mathematics, a Dirac comb (also known as shah function, impulse train or sampling function) is a periodic function with the formula \operatorname_(t) \ := \sum_^ \delta(t - k T) for some given period T. Here ''t'' is a real variable and the sum extends over all integers ''k.'' The Dirac delta function \delta and the Dirac comb are tempered distributions. The graph of the function resembles a comb (with the \deltas as the comb's ''teeth''), hence its name and the use of the comb-like Cyrillic letter sha (Ш) to denote the function. The symbol \operatorname\,\,(t), where the period is omitted, represents a Dirac comb of unit period. This implies \operatorname_(t) \ = \frac\operatorname\ \!\!\!\left(\frac\right). Because the Dirac comb function is periodic, it can be represented as a Fourier series based on the Dirichlet kernel: \operatorname_(t) = \frac\sum_^ e^. The Dirac comb function allows one to represent both continuous and discrete phenomena, such as sampling and al ...

Ukrainian Shah
Shah ( uk, шаг) was the name of several currencies used in Ukraine. The name derives from shilling via ' ( pl, szeląg). The forms (, for 2 to 4) and (, for five or more) are declensional plurals of the noun used in denominations, for example, 2 shahy, 20 shahiv. 17th-19th centuries Ukrainian-speakers used the term ''shah'' to refer to the Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth's silver coin of 17th-18th centuries with face value of 3 grosz, coined from 1528, and especially during the times of Sigismund III Vasa (ruled Poland–Lithuania from 1587 to 1632). Later, when the Ukrainian lands came increasingly under the influence of Russia, the name was transferred to the Russian copper coin of 2 kopecks. From 1839, when the Russian Empire extended its silver coinage, the term ''shah'' was transferred to the silver ½-kopeck. This term for the kopeck remained in use until 1917. Early 20th century In 1917, banknotes were introduced in the newly independent Ukraine. These were den ...
