Shabab Rafah
Shabab Rafah Sports Club ( ar, نادي شباب رفح الرياضي) or simply Shabab Rafah is a Palestinian professional football club from the city of Rafah that plays in the Gaza Strip League, co-existing top flight competition with the West Bank Premier League. History The club was founded in 1953 under the name of Al-Shoaba Club. In 1960, it changed the name to Al-Oruba Club. In 1962, the Egyptian administration in the Gaza Strip founded a Youth Care Foundation and sponsored the club who changed the name to Nadi Markaz Reayat Al-Shabab (Youth Care Center Club). After the Six-Day War of 1967, the club's activities stopped until 1973, the year when some of the loyal club members worked for the reconstruction and the revival of the club under the new name of the Shabab Rafah Sports Club and it formed the first administrative body headed by Ali Mehdi. Rafah
Rafah ( ar, رفح, Rafaḥ) is a Palestinian city in the southern Gaza Strip. It is the district capital of the Rafah Governorate, located south of Gaza City. Rafah's population of 152,950 (2014) is overwhelmingly made up of former Palestinian refugees. When Israel withdrew from the Sinai in 1982, Rafah was split into a Gazan part and an Egyptian part, dividing families, separated by barbed-wire barriers. Gaza Strip League
Gaza Strip Premier League ( ar, الدوري الممتاز الفلسطيني لقطاع غزة) is one of the two top divisions organized by the Palestinian Football Association. The other is the West Bank Premier League. It has been disputed since 1984, even if the considerable problems linked to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict have prevented its development or forced the interruption of various editions. Only seven championships have certainly been completed, due to scarce information on past editions of this tournament. The 5,000-capacity Rafah Municipal Stadium is the main venue for the league. West Bank Premier League
The 2010–11 season marked the creation of the first professional league in the territories and saw high-profile signings for many clubs. Most notably Fadi Lafi (Hilal Al-Quds), Hernán Madrid (Wadi Al-Nes), and many Arab citizens of Israel who played for teams in the second and third tier of Israeli football. The original format of the WBPL consisted of 12 teams playing each other twice over 22 matchdays, the bottom two clubs are relegated to the second division and the team with the most points are crowned champions. Markaz Shabab Al-Am'ari won the inaugural season beating out Hilal Al-Quds on goal differential. The 2011–12 included only 10 teams but the PFA have announced that four teams will be promoted from the First Division returning the league to its traditional 12-team format. The Palestine Cup is the main national association football competition in Palestine. It is sanctioned by the Palestinian Football Association. Past competitions were more expansive including clubs from all tiers of Palestinian football. For the 2010–11 season the PFA restricted participation to just the 12 teams of the 2010–11 West Bank Premier League. Format The format of the 2010–11 Palestine Cup featured a group stage with two groups of six teams. After one round of play where each team in the group had played each other once, the top two teams based on points accumulated advanced to the semifinal stage.
