Sha Tin Station
Sha Tin station, formerly known as Sha Tin railway station ( or ) is a List of MTR stations, station on the of Hong Kong's MTR, Mass Transit Railway (MTR) system. The station is located in the town centre of Sha Tin. The station was formerly on the main line of the Kowloon–Canton Railway (KCR), but since KCR's merger with the MTR, it belongs to the East Rail line of the MTR. Citylink Plaza, which has a footbridge link to New Town Plaza, is built on top of the station. The station serves two large bus termini with buses going to many places around Hong Kong (such as Sai Kung Town, Sai Kung or Tung Chung). One is on an elevated surface, adjacent to the concourse level. The other is at ground level in New Town Plaza. History The station originally opened on 1 October 1910. Sha Tin
Sha Tin, also spelt Shatin, is a neighbourhood along Shing Mun River in the eastern New Territories, Hong Kong. Administratively, it is part of the Sha Tin District. Sha Tin is one of the neighbourhoods of the Sha Tin New Town project. The new town was founded in 1973 under the New Towns Development Programme of the Hong Kong government. Its current name was named after the nearby village of Sha Tin Wai. The literal English translation is 'Sand Fields'. History Tai Wai Village, located in Tai Wai, next to Sha Tin, and the oldest and largest walled village in Sha Tin District, was built in 1574, during the Ming Dynasty. Before British rule in Hong Kong, the area of Sha Tin and its vicinity was referred to as Lek Yuen (lit. "source of trickling" or "source of clear water"). Tung Chung
Tung Chung, meaning " eastern stream", is an area on the northwestern coast of Lantau Island, Hong Kong. One of the most recent new towns, it was formerly a rural fishing village beside Tung Chung Bay, and along the delta and lower courses of Tung Chung River and Ma Wan Chung in the north-western coast of Lantau Island. The area was once an important defence stronghold against pirates and foreign military during the Ming and the Qing dynasties. East Rail Line
The East Rail line () is one of ten lines of the Mass Transit Railway (MTR) system in Hong Kong. It used to be one of the three lines of the Kowloon–Canton Railway (KCR) network. It was known as the KCR British Section () from 1910 to 1996, and the KCR East Rail () from 1996 to 2007. East Rail was the only railway line of the Kowloon-Canton Railway Corporation (KCRC) following the closure of the Sha Tau Kok Railway and before the construction of ''KCR West Rail'' (later renamed West Rail line, now part of the Tuen Ma line). Pai Tau Village () is a village located in Sha Tin, Hong Kong. Administration Pai Tau is a recognized village under the New Territories Small House Policy. It is one of the villages represented within the Sha Tin Rural Committee. An island platform (also center platform, centre platform) is a station layout arrangement where a single platform is positioned between two tracks within a railway station, tram stop or transitway interchange. Island platforms are popular on twin-track routes due to pragmatic and cost reasons. They are also useful within larger stations where local and express services for the same direction of travel can be provided from opposite sides of the same platform thereby simplifying transfers between the two tracks. Lo Wu Station
Lo Wu is the northern terminus of the (Kowloon-Canton Railway) of Hong Kong, located in Lo Wu within the Closed Area on Hong Kong's northern frontier. The station serves as a primary checkpoint for rail passengers between Hong Kong and mainland China and vice versa, rather than serving a specific area. It is also the northernmost railway station in Hong Kong. Tai Po Market Station
Tai Po Market (; : ) is an MTR station on the in the New Territories, Hong Kong. Located between Flagstaff Hill and Wan Tau Tong Estate in Tai Po, and adjacent to the eponymous market town, the station has three tracks and four platforms. Platform 1 is for northbound trains to border crossing stations at Lo Wu and Lok Ma Chau and platform 4 is for southbound trains to Hung Hom, Kowloon while platforms 2 and 3 use the same track and is reserved for peak hour traffic.
