Seymour Island Airfield
Seymour Galapagos Ecological Airport (Spanish: ''Aeropuerto Ecológico Galápagos Seymour'') is an airport serving the island of Baltra, one of the Galápagos Islands in Ecuador. Facilities The airport became the world's first "green" airport in December 2012. The new terminal, which consists of recycled steel tubes taken from oil drilling operations in the Amazon, is spread over 6,000 square meters and required an investment of just over $24 million. The new complex will use clean, renewable technologies such as solar energy, wind farms, and seawater desalination, among other environmental innovations. According to ECOGAL, the company that operates the terminal, construction of the new airport took into account the surrounding environment and sought to make a minimal impact on the ecosystem. Baltra Island (Spanish language, Spanish: ''Isla Baltra''), is a small island of the Galápagos Islands. Also known as South Seymour (named after Lord Hugh Seymour), Baltra is a small flat island located near the center of the Galápagos. It was created by Tectonic uplift, geological uplift. The island is very arid and vegetation consists of salt bushes, prickly pear cactus and Bursera graveolens, palo santo trees. The ultimate origin of the name "Baltra" for the island is unknown. EquinoxAir S.A.S, operating as Equair, is an airline headquartered in Quito, Ecuador. As of January 10, 2022, it operates domestic flights, between Quito, Guayaquil and the Galápagos Islands. The airline now competes with the Ecuadorian subsidiaries of Avianca and LATAM, as well as Aeroregional. History Equair was founded in October 2020 as ''EquinoxAir''. It started its formation process with the authorities, and in March 2021 it got assigned some of the frequencies to the Baltra and San Cristóbal islands that TAME used to operate before its dissolution. The 7th Reconnaissance Squadron is a squadron of the United States Air Force. It is assigned to the 69th Reconnaissance Group and is stationed at Naval Air Station Sigonella, Sicily, Italy. The squadron was first established in the Panama Canal Zone as the 7th Aero Squadron in 1917 and served as a reconnaissance unit until 1942, when it was redesignated as the 397th Bombardment Squadron. The 74th Reconnaissance Squadron is an active United States Air Force unit, part of the 9th Reconnaissance Wing at Beale Air Force Base, California.
