Seven Gables
Seven Gables is a mountain summit located in the Sierra Nevada mountain range in Fresno County of northern California, United States. It is situated between the east and south forks of Bear Creek in the John Muir Wilderness, on land managed by Sierra National Forest. It is set southeast of Lake Thomas A Edison, northwest of Gemini, and west-southwest of Feather Peak, the nearest higher neighbor. Topographic relief is significant as it rises nearly above Upper Bear Creek Meadows in approximately two miles. Seven Gables ranks as the 133rd highest summit in California. History The first ascent of the summit was made September 20, 1894, by Theodore Solomons and Leigh Bierce. Solomons also named it: "The south wall of the gap we found to be the side of a peak, the eccentric shape of which is suggested in the name Seven Gables, which we hastened to fasten upon it". Feather Peak
Feather Peak is a 13,240-foot-elevation (4,036 meter) mountain summit located west of the Royce Lakes in the Sierra Nevada mountain range in northern California, United States. It is situated in Fresno County, in the John Muir Wilderness, on land managed by Sierra National Forest. It is set 3.2 miles (5.1 km) east-northeast of Seven Gables, and northwest of Royce Peak, which is the nearest higher neighbor. Feather Peak is the 99th highest summit in California. The first ascent of the summit was made in July 1933 by David Brower, who also named this peak. Climate According to the Köppen climate classification system, Feather Peak is located in an alpine climate zone. Most weather fronts originate in the Pacific Ocean, and travel east toward the Sierra Nevada mountains. Clarence Linus Cory (September 4, 1872 – August 2, 1937) was an American engineer and educator who is known as the father of Electrical Engineering at University of California, Berkeley. Early life Cory was born in Lafayette, Indiana, to Thomas Cory and Carrie Stoney. Cory's father was an inventor and served as a topographer in the Union Army during the American Civil War. South Fork San Joaquin River
The South Fork San Joaquin River is the largest headwater of the San Joaquin River in central California, United States. About long, it drains an area of the high Sierra Nevada about northeast of Fresno.
