Seth Boyden Terrace
The Seth Boyden Terrace, named after Seth Boyden, was a former public housing complex in the South Ward of Newark, New Jersey. The project, one of the city of Newark's first attempts at providing public housing, opened in 1941. The three-story buildings located at Frelinghuysen Avenue, Center Terrace, Dayton Street, and Seth Boyden Terrace contain 530 apartments. In 1942, the 530 families who lived in the project, along with their 1000 children, were put under quarantine when three children were stricken with paralysis. There is currently Seth Boyden Elderly housing still in use through the Newark Housing Authority. , the Seth Boyden Terrace housing project in Newark was abandoned. It was demolished in 2022. Seth Boyden
Seth Boyden (November 17, 1788 – March 31, 1870) was an American inventor. Early life He was born in Foxboro, Massachusetts, on November 17, 1788, the son of Seth Boyden and Susannah Atherton. His father was a farmer and blacksmith. His younger brother was Uriah A. Boyden. Career He worked as a watchmaker and moved to Newark, New Jersey. Boyden perfected the process for making patent leather, created malleable iron, invented a nail-making machine, and built his own steamboat. He is also credited with having invented a cut off switch for steam engines and a method for producing zinc from ore. Lionsgate Newark Studios is a 350,000 square foot film and television production studio under construction in Newark, New Jersey. It is located in Dayton in the South Ward on of land overlooking Weequahic Golf Course west of Newark Liberty International Airport. Lionsgate is to be the key tenant with naming rights, and the project is being built by Great Point Studios. The studio is billed as the first purpose-built studio in New Jersey to be constructed for TV and film production using tax credits. It includes five soundstages ranging from 20,000 to 30,000 square feet and additional space for on-site production support services such as catering, offices, and prop handling.
