Serhiy Popov
Serhiy Oleksandrovych Popov ( uk, Сергій Олександрович Попов; russian: Серге́й Александрович Попов; born 22 April 1971 in Makiivka) is a former footballer from Ukraine. He is the highest scoring defender of the Ukraine national football team. Career Popov is a graduate of the Donetsk sports school of Olympic reserve and started to compete at senior level at age of 17 playing for the Novator Mariupol (Zhdanov). After being drafted to the army, he defended colors of SKA Kiev and FC Nyva Vinnytsia in 1990–91. After the fall of the Soviet Union Popov signed with Shakhtar Donetsk of the Ukrainian Premier League, with which he stayed until 2004. In the mid 90s he also spend couple of seasons for the Russian Zenit Saint Petersburg. Before retiring in 2006 Popov played for Metalurh Zaporizhia. Makiivka ( uk, Макіївка, Makíyivka, ; russian: Макеевка, Makeyevka, ), formerly Dmytriivsk, is an industrial city in Donetsk Oblast in eastern Ukraine. Shakhtar Donetsk
Football Club Shakhtar Donetsk ( uk, Футбольний клуб «Шахтар» Донецьк , short nickname "miners") is a Ukrainian professional football club from the city of Donetsk. In 2014, due to the War in Donbass, the club was forced to move to Lviv, and had played matches in Lviv (2014–2016) and in Kharkiv (2017–2020) whilst having its office headquarters and training facilities in Kyiv. In May 2020, Shakhtar started to play home matches at NSC Olimpiyskiy in Kyiv. Shakhtar has appeared in several European competitions and is often a participant in the UEFA Champions League. UEFA Euro 2000 Qualifying
Qualifying for the UEFA Euro 2000 final tournament, took place throughout 1998 and 1999. Forty-nine teams were divided into nine groups. All teams played against each other, within their groups, on a home-and-away basis. The winner of each group and the best runner-up qualified automatically for the final tournament. The rest of the runners-up played an additional set of playoff matches amongst each other. Belgium and the Netherlands qualified automatically as co-hosts of the event. Listed below are the dates and results for the 1998 FIFA World Cup qualification rounds for the European zone (UEFA). A total of 50 UEFA teams entered the competition; Andorra, which joined FIFA and UEFA in November 1996 while the qualifiers were underway, could not enter. Goodman Stadium is Lehigh University's 16,000-seat stadium located on its Goodman Campus in Lower Saucon Township. It opened in 1988, replacing Taylor Stadium, which stood in the main academic campus from 1914 until 1987. The Rec.Sport.Soccer Statistics Foundation (RSSSF) is an international organization dedicated to collecting statistics about association football.
