Seppe Smits
Sebastien "Seppe" Smits (born 13 July 1991) is a Belgian professional snowboarder and World Championship medalist. Smits was born in Westmalle and started snowboarding at a serious level in the winter of 2006–2007, competing in the Europa Cup. He obtained his first World Cup medal when finishing third in the Big Air competition in Stockholm on 22 November 2008, winning the silver medal at the World Championships a few months later in Gangwon. Further medals in the World Cup, both in Big Air and Slopestyle, followed over the next years. In 2009, Seppe Smits won the rookie Big Air competition at the Air & Style festival in Innsbruck. Smits finished second in the 6-star TTR event in Beijing on 4 December 2010. On 8 January 2011, Smits took over the lead in the Swatch TTR World Tour for 2011, after finishing fourth in Davos. Wilrijk
Wilrijk (; former, original spelling: ''Wilrijck'') is a district of the municipality and city of Antwerp in the Belgian province of Antwerp. Wilrijk had been a separate municipality before January 1, 1983; the enlarged municipality of Antwerp was decentralized in 2000 and Wilrijk became one of the city's nine districts. Westmalle
Westmalle is a village in the Belgian province of Antwerp which is part of the municipality of Malle. History See history of Malle. Tourism Westmalle is primarily known for the Trappist Abbey of Westmalle of the Order of Cistercians of the Strict Observance (O.C.S.O.: Ordo Cisterciensium reformatorum), and its brewery. Slopestyle
Slopestyle is a winter sport in which athletes ski or snowboard down a course including a variety of obstacles including rails, jumps and other terrain park features. Points are scored for amplitude, originality and quality of tricks. The discipline has its roots in action sports like skateboarding and BMX and has very successfully crossed over into the snow sports worlds of skiing and snowboarding. Skiers use Twin-tip skis for their symmetry since they often go large portions of the course backward (referred to as "switch") and for their balanced weight so as to not destabilize spins. Slopestyle tricks fall mainly into four categories: spins, grinds, grabs and flips, and most tricks done in competition are a combination of these. 2012 World Snowboarding Championships
The 2012 World Snowboard Championships (WSC) took place in Oslo, Norway from February 10–19, 2012. 240 riders from approximately 35 countries competed in slopestyle and halfpipe disciplines. The 2012 World Snowboarding Championships is the first championships run by snowboarders since 1999. It is developed and owned by the Ticket To Ride (TTR) and World Snowboard Federation (WSF). It is organized by Snowboard-VM 2012 AS – the local organizing company owned by The Arctic Challenge, The Norwegian Snowboard Federation and Oslo Vinterpark. Yuri Podladchikov
Iouri Iourеvich Podladtchikov (russian: Юрий Юрьевич Подладчиков, born 13 September 1988) is a Russian-born Swiss snowboarder. He rides goofy stance. He has competed since 2000. He won the gold medal for the halfpipe at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi. Career Russian-born Podladtchikov grew up in Davos, Switzerland, and started snowboarding in 2000. He changed nationality after competing for Russia in Snowboarding at the 2006 Winter Olympics – Men's halfpipe, Turin at age 17. In the final rankings he was 37th. Graduated from Sports High Pool Davos in 2008. Podladtchikov, known on the circuit as I-Pod, won the halfpipe World Cup title in 2008. Peetu Piiroinen
Peetu Piiroinen (born 15 February 1988) is a Finnish snowboarder. He is a three-time Olympian representing Finland in snowboarding at the 2010 Winter Olympics, 2014 Winter Olympics and 2018 Winter Olympics. Peetu made the finals in all 3 Olympics and won the silver medal at the 2010 Games.
