Sentinel is an unincorporated community in northern Polk County, in the U.S. state of Missouri. The site is located just east of Missouri Route 64 between Mohawk Corner to the south and Pittsburg in Hickory County to the north. Pomme de Terre Lake Pomme de Terre Lake is located in southwest Missouri at the confluence of Lindley Creek and the Pomme de Terre River (for which it is named). Missouri Route 64
Route 64 is a highway in central Missouri with endpoints of Route 254 south of Hermitage and Route 5 in Lebanon. Route 64 is one of the original 1922 state highways and originally ran between Preston and Collins. It would eventually be moved further to the south with its older alignment becoming U.S. Route 54. It would also be extended east. It is also only one of three Missouri state highways bearing the same number as an Interstate highway in Missouri. Hickory County is located in the U.S. state of Missouri. As of the 2020 census, the population was 8,279. Its county seat is Hermitage. The county was organized February 14, 1845, and named after President Andrew Jackson, whose nickname was "Old Hickory." Pomme De Terre Lake
Pomme de Terre Lake is located in southwest Missouri at the confluence of Lindley Creek and the Pomme de Terre River (for which it is named). The lake is located in southern Hickory and northern Polk counties, about north of Springfield. Its name is the French language word for potato (literally "earth-apple"). The lake is part of a series of lakes in the Osage River Basin designed and constructed by the United States Army Corps of Engineers for flood control. Construction began in 1957 and was complete in 1961 at a cost of $14,946,784. Storage of water began on October 29, 1961 and the multipurpose pool was reached on June 15, 1963. The dam is adjacent to Pomme de Terre State Park and is crossed by Route 254. It consists of a circular tunnel with two 6.5 X hydraulic slide service gates and a single circular low flow gate.
