Semyon Alekseyevich Fedorets
Semyon Alekseyevich Fedorets (russian: Семён Александрович Федорец; 18 February 1921 2002) was a MiG-15 pilot of the Soviet Union. He was a flying ace during the Korean war, with 7 victories. Career In 1941, Fedorets graduated from Dnepropetrovsk Aeroclub and entered the Military Aviation School in Odessa. After graduation, he was sent to the Leningrad Front as part of the 403rd Fighter Aviation Regiment. Young pilots were only allowed to participate in combat operations by May 1944, and by then the front moved away from Leningrad. Thus, he did not actually participate in the battles of the Great Patriotic War. After the war, in September 1949, was transferred to the airfield Voskresensk in the Russian Far East. In April 1952, his unit was sent to an airfield in Anshan city, China. On 17 December 1952, Feforets shot down his first F-86 Sabre. Dnipro, previously called Dnipropetrovsk from 1926 until May 2016, is Ukraine's fourth-largest city, with about one million inhabitants. Anshan () is an inland prefecture-level city in central-southeast Liaoning province, People's Republic of China, about south of the provincial capital Shenyang. Dozens of aviators were credited as flying aces in the Korean War from 1950 to 1953. The number of total flying aces, who are credited with downing five or more enemy aircraft in air-to-air combat, is disputed in the war. The Korean War saw the first widespread use of jet engine-powered fighter aircraft for both sides of a war. Subsequently, difficulty arose in crediting the number of victories for each side, thanks in part to poor records, intentional overestimation, and the difficulty of confirming crashes in MiG Alley, where the majority of air-to-air combat took place in the war. As a result, there is a large discrepancy on both sides as to the number of victories claimed versus aircraft lost, and it is extremely difficult to determine the accuracy of many victories. The North American F-86 Sabre, sometimes called the Sabrejet, is a transonic jet fighter aircraft. Produced by North American Aviation, the Sabre is best known as the United States' first swept-wing fighter that could counter the swept-wing Soviet MiG-15 in high-speed dogfights in the skies of the Korean War (1950–1953), fighting some of the earliest jet-to-jet battles in history. Considered one of the best and most important fighter aircraft in that war, the F-86 is also rated highly in comparison with fighters of other eras.
