Selva Mayo
Selva () is a coastal comarque (county) in Catalonia, Spain, located between the mountain range known as the Serralada Transversal or Puigsacalm and the Costa Brava (part of the Mediterranean coast). Unusually, it is divided between the provinces of Girona and Barcelona, with Fogars de la Selva being part of Barcelona province and all other municipalities falling inside Girona province. Also unusually, its capital, Santa Coloma de Farners, is no longer among its larger municipalities, with the coastal towns of Blanes and Lloret de Mar having far surpassed it in size. Comarques Of Catalonia
This is a list of the 42 ''comarques'' (singular ''comarca'', , ) into which Catalonia is divided. A ''comarca'' is a group of municipalities, roughly equivalent to a county in the US or a district or council in the UK. However, in the context of Catalonia, the term "county" can be a bit misleading, because in medieval Catalonia, aside from the kings of Aragon, the most important rulers were counts, notably the Counts of Barcelona and of Urgell. Comarques have no particular relation to the "counties" that were ruled by counts. Tossa De Mar
Tossa de Mar () is a municipality in Catalonia, Spain, located on the coastal Costa Brava, about 103 kilometres north of Barcelona and 100 kilometres south of the French border. It is accessible through Girona Airport, some distance north. Sils is a municipality in the ''comarca'' of Selva, in Catalonia, Spain. It is situated next to a former lake, which was drained in the nineteenth century. Riudarenes
Riudarenes is a village in the province of Girona and autonomous community of Catalonia, Spain. The municipality covers an area of and the population in 2014 was 2,148. History During the revolt of Catalonia in 1640, Spanish troops, led by Lleonard Moles came to the coast, burning and looting both the church and town hall of Riudarenes, where the town supposedly kept its jewels and wealth (a fire which also spread to the parish church of Sant Sadurní Montiró). This act drew widespread condemnation from both the Consell de Cent of Barcelona in Catalonia and the court of the King of Spain and even in Rome. The bishop Gregori Parcero led the investigation in which witnesses testified to the fact that it was the soldiers of Lleonard Moles who were responsible. This led to the excommunication of both Moles and Juan de Arce. So significant was this act of sacrilege that it was a big motivation to the Catalan insurgents against Philip IV.
