Selma Hanımsultan ( ota, سلمه خانم سلطان, "''peace''"; 13 April 1916 – 13 January 1942) was an Ottoman princess, the daughter of Rauf Hayri Bey and Hatice Sultan. Early life Selma Hanımsultan was born on 13 April 1916 in her mother's villa in Ortaköy. Her father was Rauf Hayri Bey (1871 – 1936), son of Hayri Bey and Belkis Hanım, and her mother was Hatice Sultan (1870 – 1938), daughter of Sultan Murad V and Şayan Kadın. At the exile of the imperial family in March 1924, Selma and her family settled in Beirut, Lebanon. Her parents had divorced in 1918, and in exile, they lived on the alimony sent by her father. However, when he was mixed up in a smuggling plot, dismissed from his job and put in prison, they were left with no money. Despite the family's limited means, she blossomed into a fashionable young woman. Abdulmejid I
Abdulmejid I ( ota, عبد المجيد اول, ʿAbdü'l-Mecîd-i evvel, tr, I. Abdülmecid; 25 April 182325 June 1861) was the 31st Sultan of the Ottoman Empire and succeeded his father Mahmud II on 2 July 1839. His reign was notable for the rise of nationalist movements within the empire's territories. Abdulmejid wanted to encourage Ottomanism among secessionist subject nations and stop rising nationalist movements within the empire, but despite new laws and reforms to integrate non-Muslims and non-Turks more thoroughly into Ottoman society, his efforts failed in this regard. Şayan Kadın ( ota, شایان قادین; 1853 – 1919) was the third wife of Sultan Murad V of the Ottoman Empire. Biography Born in the Caucasus in 1853, Şayan had been formerly a member of the household of scholar Sıddık Molla. She married Murad probably in the mid-1860s. She had exquisite blue eyes, pink nose, made her a marvel in feminine loveliness. Murad's love and affection for her made other consorts jealous of her. After sometime Şayan became pregnant with her first child. Pertevniyal Sultan sent over her palace midwife to abort the child. When the midwife arrived to abort the child, Murad obtained permission from Sultan Abdulaziz for this child to be aborted outside the villa. The pregnant Şayan was taken to the home of Dr. Mehmed Emin Pasha for the abortion, But at Murad's request the doctor prepared a harmless concoction for her and sent her back to the prince's villa, while reporting to the palace that he had administrated treatment to induce abortion. ...
