Selbstportrait – Vol. II
''Selbstportrait – Vol. II'' is the fourth solo album by German keyboardist Hans-Joachim Roedelius, best known for his work with Cluster, Harmonia and Aquarello. The title is German for "Self Portrait - Vol. II", a title which clearly reflects the gentle, introspective nature of this album of ambient or new-age music. It is the second of seven albums in Roedelius' ''Selbsportrait'' series of recordings. The album is subtitled "Freundliche Musik", German for "Friendly Music". Recording and Release Like '' Selbstportrait'' before it, ''Selbstportrait – Vol. II'' was recorded by Roedelius at his home in Forst, in the Weser Uplands of West Germany and in Austria between various Cluster sessions from 1973 until 1979, so much of the music actually predates Roedelius' first two solo albums: ''Durch Die Wüste'' and '' Jardin Au Fou''. New-age Music
New-age is a genre of music intended to create artistic inspiration, relaxation technique, relaxation, and optimism. Alle Jahre wieder (English: "Every year again") is a well-known German Christmas carol. The text was written in 1837 by .Wilhelm Hey: ''Noch funfzig Fabeln für Kinder.'' Jardin Au Fou
''Jardin Au Fou'' is the second solo album by German keyboardist Hans-Joachim Roedelius, best known for his work with Cluster. The title is French for "Madman's Garden". ''Jardin Au Fou'' was recorded from April through July, 1978 at Paragon Studios in Berlin, Germany. It was produced by former Tangerine Dream member Peter Baumann and released by the French label Egg in 1979. ''Jardin Au Fou'' was the only early Roedelius album not to be released by Sky Records. The original release included 10 tracks but the final short piece, "Final", was left off the track listing on the original album cover. ''Jardin Au Fou'' was reissued on CD in 1998 by the Japanese Captain Trip label. The reissued version added six bonus tracks which nearly doubled the length of the album. Three of the new tracks are remixes of material on the original recording while three others are newly released. The new tracks are very much in the style of the original album.
