Segamat District
The Segamat District ( ms, Daerah Segamat) or simply Segamat is a List of districts in Malaysia, district in the Malaysian states of Malaysia, state of Johor. Segamat (town), Segamat is also the name of the district's primary town. Etymology It is believed that 'Segamat' is derived from the Malay language, Malay phrase '', which literally translates as 'very refreshing'. According to the local folklore, the phrase was uttered by a Bendahara during the Sultanate of Malacca upon drinking the water from the Segamat River. Geography The district is located in the northern part of Johor. It borders the state of Negeri Sembilan (Tampin and Jempol districts) to the northwest, the state of Pahang (Bera and Rompin districts) to the northeast, the district of Mersing to the east, the district of Kluang to the southeast, the district of Batu Pahat to the southwest and the districts of Muar and Tangkak to the west. Bendahara
Bendahara ( Jawi: بنداهارا) is an administrative position within classical Malay kingdoms comparable to a vizier before the intervention of European powers during the 19th century. A bendahara was appointed by a sultan and was a hereditary post. The bendahara and the sultan shared the same lineage. Tasks of the Bendahara The closest post which is comparable to the post of the vizier as the Malay kingdoms are Islamic kingdoms. As the bendahara is the head of the nobility, the status confers certain responsibility. The bendahara is the backbone of the Malay Sultanate. Buloh Kasap is a mukim in Segamat District, Johor, Malaysia which is located about from Segamat town center via Federal Route 1. Because of its location near Segamat, Buloh Kasap may also act as a satellite town of Segamat. Tun Razak Highway is located roughly about from Buloh Kasap. Name The name ''Buloh Kasap'' was derived from a Malay word for a species of rough bamboo available there when the town was founded, especially near an Buloh Kasap old market. Jementah
Jementah is a mukim in Segamat District, Johor, Malaysia. Name There are two versions of stories of how Jementah got its name. The first version was during the foundation of a village which later became Jementah town center, some villagers complained, ''"Jemu, jemu, jemu! Asyik-asyik menebas lalang saja!"'' which literally meant that they felt bored for only cutting long grasses, and the others replied, ''"Entah, entah, entah!"'' (I don't know, I don't know, I don't know!). From the Malay words ''jemu'' and ''entah'', local residents believed that the combination of those words formed the word ''Jementah''. Bandar Utama Damansara is a residential township located within the Sungai Buloh mukim (subdivision) of the Petaling District, Selangor, Malaysia. It is a residential suburb and home to the popular 1 Utama Shopping Centre. Gemas Baharu
Gemas Baru (''New Gemas'' in English) is a small town in Segamat District, Johor, Malaysia. The town is located about 1 km from the Johor- Negeri Sembilan border. The original town centre of Gemas is located just within the Negeri Sembilan state side of the border and also shared the same postal code 73400. To the southwest stands the famed Mount Ledang, also known as Mount Ophir, with a height of 1276 m. Batu Anam
Batu Anam is a town in the northern part of Segamat District, Johor, Malaysia. It is about halfway between downtown Segamat and Gemas, Negeri Sembilan. Economy Batu Anam is surrounded by rubber and oil palm plantations and the more prominent plantations are Sungei Senarut Estate, Paya Lang Estate and Gomali Estate with a number of smaller estates and smallholdings. There is an old rubber factory known as H&C Latex still in use.
