''Sega Genesis Collection '' (''Sega Mega Drive Collection'' in PAL regions) is a compilation of video games developed by Digital Eclipse and published by Sega for PlayStation 2 and PlayStation Portable. The collection includes twenty-eight Sega Genesis games from a variety of genres, as well as unlockable classic Sega arcade games, with different sets of arcade games for the PlayStation 2 and PlayStation Portable versions. Backbone Entertainment was an American video game developer based in Emeryville, California. The company was formed in 2003 as the result of a merger between developers Digital Eclipse and ImaginEngine. In 2005, Backbone merged with The Collective (company), The Collective to form Foundation 9 Entertainment. History Backbone Entertainment was formed in 2003 through a merger between Digital Eclipse, a developer of Video game emulation, emulations of arcade games, and ImaginEngine, an edutainment games developer. ImaginEngine remained an independent studio, based in Framingham, Massachusetts, while Digital Eclipse's studios were absorbed by Backbone, becoming Backbone Emeryville and Backbone Vancouver, respectively. Comix Zone
''Comix Zone'' is a 1995 beat 'em up video game developed and published by Sega for the Genesis. It is set within the panels of a comic book with dialogue rendered within talk bubbles and sprites, and backgrounds possessing the bright colors and dynamic drawing style of superhero comics. This style is in previous video games, for example Ocean Software's '' Batman: The Caped Crusader'' in 1988, but ''Comix Zone'' stretched the idea to such an extent that Sega applied for and was granted a patent for a "videogame system for creating a simulated comic book game". Gain Ground
is a 1988 action- strategy arcade game later ported to home systems. Gameplay In ''Gain Ground'', players control one of a set of characters at a time, each with different weapons. To beat a level, players must reach the exit point with at least one character or destroy all enemies on the level before time runs out. There are forty levels in the arcade version of the game. The Master System and the Genesis/Mega Drive have fifty levels in the game. Normal mode starts with three players. There are captive characters littered across all levels, which can be rescued by walking over, then escorting the controlled character to the exit point. Flicky
is a platform game developed by Sega and released in Arcade video game, arcades in May 1984. It was licensed to Bally Midway for distribution in the United States. In ''Flicky'', the player controls the eponymous blue bird and must gather all the small birds called Chirps in each round and bring them safely to the exit. There are cat and lizard enemies which can disperse the Chirps and kill the player, but Flicky can use items on the playing field to protect herself and the Chirps from danger. The idea for ''Flicky'' came from Sega senior leadership, who wanted to exceed the success of Namco's ''Mappy'' (1983). Yoji Ishii and Yoshiki Kawasaki developed ''Flicky'' at Sega over one year. Originally, the game simply had the player catch ambiguous dots in a maze.
