Ghencea
Ghencea is a district of the Romanian capital city Bucharest, in Sector 5. It is home to the famous sports club CSA Steaua București. Nearby districts are Drumul Taberei and Rahova. History Construction of apartment blocks started in the area in 1978 and was completed in 1987. The textile factory ''Tricodava'' and the plastic factory ''Munplast'' were built by the communist regime in the neighborhood. Tricodava was demolished in 2007 and an apartment complex was built on the former location. Transportation The infrastructure of the neighborhood is not very good. There are no subway stations in the area and the only way to get around fast is by using lightrail line 41. Getting around by car, bus or trolleybus can be very time-consuming, especially during rush hours. Living There are no markets in the area but in the morning people come from the nearby village of Domnești and sell fruits and vegetables on the street. Save Romania Union
The Save Romania Union ( ro, Uniunea Salvați România, USR) is a liberal political party active in Romania and Moldova, currently the third largest party in the Parliament with 43 deputies and 22 senators, and fifth at national level (following the 2020 Romanian local elections), after the Democratic Alliance of Hungarians in Romania (UDMR/RMDSZ) and the People's Movement Party (PMP), two smaller centre-right political parties in the country. The National Liberal Party ( ro, Partidul Național Liberal, PNL) is a liberal-conservative political party in Romania (and the second largest overall political party in the country as of 2022). The Social Democratic Party ( ro, Partidul Social Democrat, PSD) is the largest social democratic political party in Romania and also the largest overall political party in the country, aside from European Parliament level, where it is the second largest by total number of MEPs, after the National Liberal Party (PNL). Daniel Florea (born September 19, 1972) is a Romanian lawyer and politician who currently serves as the mayor of Bucharest's Sector 5. A member of the Social Democratic Party (PSD) and former member of the Democratic Party (PD), he has represented Călărași County in the Chamber of Deputies since 2012. Early life and education Born in Călărași, he graduated from Nicolae Bălcescu High School (now Barbu Știrbei National College). He then attended the Faculty of Law at the University of Bucharest from which he graduated in 1995 with the essay "Organized crime - a transnational phenomenon - and its impact on Romanian society". 2020 Romanian Local Elections
Local elections were held in Romania on 27 September 2020. Initially planned for June 2020, the emergence of the COVID-19 pandemic led the Government of Romania to postpone the elections to a date no later than 31 December 2020, and extending all the terms of the local offices due to expire on 5 June 2020. The aforementioned decision was deemed unconstitutional, and, in the end, a law was passed that extended the terms of the local officials up to 30 November 2020, and allowed the elections to be called by the Parliament, rather than by the Government, no later than that day. On 8 July 2020, the Parliament of Romania adopted a law setting the date of the elections on 27 September 2020. Cristian Popescu Piedone (born 15 February 1963) is a Romanian convicted felon and politician who served as mayor of Bucharest's Sector 4 (Bucharest), Sector 4 from 2008 until the 4 November 2015, when he resigned following the Colectiv nightclub fire and the subsequent 2015 Romanian protests. Biography Early life Before the Romanian Revolution, Cristian Popescu was the Maître d'hôtel, head waiter at a seaside restaurant. In 1990, he opened his own restaurant named ''Restaurantul Ciocârlia (''"Nightingale Restaurant"'')'' on the Dâmbovița River quay in Bucharest. Rahova
Rahova is a neighbourhood of southwest Bucharest, Romania, situated in Sector 5, west of Dâmboviţa River. It is named after the Bulgarian town ''Rahovo'' (today Oryahovo), site of a battle in the Romanian War of Independence. The neighborhood stretches from between Antiaeriană and Drumul Sării Avenues to Panduri Square (in the west), Panduri and 13 Septembrie Streets in the north, George Cosbuc Avenue, Viilor and Sălaj Streets in the east and Bucharest City Limits in the South. Roughly, the neighbourhood is organized alongside two important arterial streets (13 Septembrie and Rahovei Streets, and the streets linking them).
