Section 3 (NYSPHSAA)
Section 3 is one of the eleven sections of the New York State Public High School Athletic Association (NYSPHSAA). The section covers Central New York and, like the other sections of the NYSPHSAA, is further divided into leagues. Each school is also given a class (i.e. AA, A, B...) based on the size of the school. Schools compete with their leagues mostly, but also compete with other schools throughout the season, especially towards the end of a season during championship time. Leagues Section 3 comprises seven leagues, some of which are even further broken down into smaller groups. The following is the list of leagues with their member schools in order of size, from largest to smallest, based on the number of schools in the league. Port Byron Central School District
Port Byron Central School District is headquartered in the Village of Port Byron, Town of Mentz, County of Cayuga and State of New York. It serves 950 students from the predominantly rural towns of Mentz, Montezuma, Throop, and Conquest. Residents of these towns live in the Port Byron and Auburn postal areas. Cato-Meridian High School (New York)
Cato is a town in Cayuga County, New York, United States. According to the 2020 census, the town had a population of 2,443. The town is named after Cato the Elder, a Roman statesman. The name was assigned by the surveyors of the Military Tract, and is one of many towns and villages bearing a classical name. The town of Cato contains part of a village also named Cato, as well as the entire village of Meridian. Cato is northwest of Syracuse. History The town was in the Central New York Military Tract, reserved for veterans of the American Revolution. Settlers trickled in during the early 19th century. After the War of 1812, the population increased more quickly. The town was formed in 1802 from part of the town of Aurelius.
