Secrets Of The Night
''Secrets of the Night'' is a 1924 American silent film directed by Herbert Blaché and made at Universal Pictures. The black-and-white “murder mystery-melodrama comedy” stars James Kirkwood Sr., Madge Bellamy, and ZaSu Pitts. It was adapted from the play ''The Nightcap'' written by Guy Bolton and Max Marcin. The film was thought lost until a print of the film was rediscovered in a basement in Mississauga, Ontario, in 2017. Plot As described in a review in a film magazine, Robert Andrews (Kirkwood), president of a bank, invites the bank examiner and several directors to his home for a house party in order to keep him from examining the books and discovering a big shortage. Andrews quarrels with young Hammond (Ricketts), who is in love with his ward, Anne Maynard (Bellamy), and also with Lester Knowles (Hull), who is jealous of the friendship between Andrews and his wife Margaret (Theby). Herbert Blaché
Herbert Blaché (5 October 1882 – 23 October 1953), born Herbert Reginald Gaston Blaché-Bolton was a British-born American film director, producer and screenwriter, born of a French father. He directed more than 50 films between 1912 and 1929. Biography Blaché was born in London, England. His father was a French hatmaker originally from Mont-de-Marsan, while his mother was an English actress, Elizabeth Bolton. In 1907 he married filmmaking pioneer Alice Guy, head of production with the French Gaumont Film Company. Their marriage meant that Alice had to resign from her position working with Gaumont. Zasu Pitts
Zasu Pitts (; January 3, 1894 – June 7, 1963) was an American actress who starred in many silent dramas, including Erich von Stroheim's epic 1924 silent film ''Greed'', and comedies, transitioning successfully to mostly comedy films with the advent of sound films. She also appeared on numerous radio shows. Her career as an entertainer spanned nearly 50 years, and she was awarded a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 1960. Her parents named her "ZaSu" as an amalgamation of the two maiden aunts she had been named for. Early life ZaSu Pitts was born in Parsons, Kansas, to Rulandus and Nelly (''née'' Shay) Pitts; she was the third of four children. Her father, who had lost a leg while serving in the 76th New York Infantry in the Civil War, had settled the family in Kansas by the time ZaSu was born. Lewis Montagna (born Luigi Montagna; May 16, 1887 – January 24, 1950), better known as Bull Montana, was an Italian-American professional wrestler, boxer and actor. Biography Born in Voghera, Italy, into a poor country family — and at a time when Italy was a predominantly rural country — with limited prospects, at 19 years old, Montagna made the decision to move to the United States. He was born in New York City and died in Los Angeles, California, from lung cancer.
