Secretary For Lands And Works
The Secretary for Environment and Ecology () of the Hong Kong Government is responsible for environment protection policy in Hong Kong. The position was created most recently in 2007 as the Secretary for the Environment to replace portions of the previous portfolio of Secretary for the Environment, Transport and Works. On 1 July 2022, the position renamed with the absorption of the food and environmental hygiene portfolio from the Secretary for Food and Health. The position was renamed various times to include different portfolios, including Secretary for the Environment, Transport and Works (), who heads the Environment, Transport and Works Bureau of the Hong Kong Government, responsible for public works projects, transport related issues and environmental protection. Tung Chee-hwa (; born 7 July 1937) is a Hong Kong businessman and politician who served as the first Chief Executive of Hong Kong between 1997 and 2005, upon the transfer of sovereignty on 1 July. He is currently a vice-chairman of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC). Born as the eldest son of Chinese shipping magnate Tung Chao Yung, who founded Orient Overseas Container Line (OOCL), Tung took over the family business after his father's death in 1981. Chris Patten
Christopher Francis Patten, Baron Patten of Barnes, (; born 12 May 1944) is a British politician who was the 28th and last Governor of Hong Kong from 1992 to 1997 and Chairman of the Conservative Party from 1990 to 1992. He was made a life peer in 2005 and has been Chancellor of the University of Oxford since 2003. Raised in west London, Patten studied history at Balliol College, Oxford. Kenneth "Nicky" Chan Nai-keong, CBE, JP (; 17 November 1931 – 9 May 2003) was a Hong Kong engineer and government official. He was the first Chinese person to become Secretary for Lands and Works from 1983 to 1986. Biography With a family root in Zhongshan, Guangdong, Chan was born in 1931. He was educated at Loughborough College and became a student engineer at the Public Works Department of the Hong Kong government. His first task was road-widening work in Wong Nai Chung Road outside the Hong Kong Jockey Club in Happy Valley. One of this major projects was the construction of the Connaught Road pedestrian underpass to the Star Ferry Terminal in Central. David Wylie McDonald
David Wylie McDonald, (9 October 1927 – 8 March 2007) was a Scottish architect and a colonial civil servant. He was the Director of Public Works in Hong Kong and the first Secretary for Lands and Works. Biography Born on 9 October 1927 in Armadale, West Lothian, he was educated at Harris Academy, Dundee and volunteered for the Black Watch at the age of 17 in late 1944. One of his first postings was to guard the Princess Elizabeth at Balmoral where he served as a dancing partner and also part of the King's Guard in Inverness and Edinburgh. He took his architecture degree at Dundee College of Art and obtained a trainee job with a local architectural firm and married Eliza (Betty) Roberts Steele on 3 July 1951.
